The Innovation Associate works with the Vice President of Innovation and, to a lesser extent, the Senior Vice President of Global Operations & Solutions and the Senior Vice President of Government Relations, to support Code Council initiatives advancing building and community safety, sustainability and resilience both in the U.S. and internationally. Focus areas include resilience, sustainability, climate risk and mitigation, off-site construction, and advancing the Code Council’s family of building safety solutions, including building codes, standards, consulting, and capacity building, which broadly includes training, professional credentialing, and conformity assessment (product testing, evaluation, and accreditation). The Associate will contribute to highly visible sustainability, resilience and innovation activities including the Code Council’s Off-Site Construction Initiative, ICC’s Energy Framework and Decarbonization Strategy, the Alliance for National & Community Resilience, and participation in the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (Global ABC).
Position Responsibilities:
- Research and writing white papers on emerging topics including energy efficiency and decarbonization, climate risk, resilience, and off-site construction.
- Supporting a multidisciplinary team through development of correspondence, organizing meetings, and developing surveys and compiling results.
- Developing outreach, education and advocacy resources on energy, resilience and innovation topics.
- Assisting government relations staff in development of RFI comments and resources in support of code adoption or other priorities.
- Facilitating development of community resilience benchmarks with committees of subject matter experts.
- Researching, analyzing, and tracking policy activities related to application of codes, standards and conformity assessment requirements.
- Assist in the tracking and execution of a portfolio of federally funded grants.
- Participating in governmental and external stakeholder forums and conferences to strategically position organizational solutions in policy development, industry initiatives, and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborating in international building and construction initiatives and projects.
- Performing other tasks and duties as directed.
Essential Skills and Education / Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in government relations, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Public Administration, Environmental Policy, Business, Building Science, Sustainability, or related field
- Interdisciplinary experience is a plus
- Excellent research, writing and communication skills
- Ability to balance multiple projects and priorities

- Ability to travel as required (up to 25%)
