Irrigation Specialist
Description

Under general supervision this position will manage, maintain and inspect irrigation systems, and repair 2 wire irrigation system for Gathering Place, Guthrie Green and Discovery Lab. The selected individual will also create and implement various irrigation control programs and methods to conserve water usage and aid in proper plant growth and development.

Requirements

Essential Functions (Including, but not limited to):

  • Conducts all activities in alignment with principles and integrity of the Gathering Place. 
  • Ensure quality and consistency in all aspects of the day to day operation.
  • Follow all operating policies and procedures on a continuous basis to ensure safety, efficiency and guest satisfaction.
  • Complete irrigation tasks including the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of 2-wire irrigation system. 
  • Working with Manager to create programs and adjust irrigation computer stations to manage the water distribution and rate in accordance to water needs of plants, bushes, turf and trees in conjunction with horticulture, turfgrass and arborist staff.
  • Utilizes TripleSeat software to ensure irrigation levels and timing is appropriate in accordance with various park events. 
  • Works in conjunction with Programming team to ensure irrigation levels and timing is appropriate in accordance to events. 
  • Adjust irrigation schedule based on weather conditions and seasonal changes.
  • Maintains availability of water into the winter months and shuts system off as needed to protect from freeze damage.
  • Operates a variety of tools and equipment used in irrigation maintenance and trouble shooting.
  • Assists various individuals with identifying the location of irrigation systems, their operation and minor repairs.
  • Order and maintain inventory of irrigation supplies and equipment.
  • Trains others in the installation, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems.
  • Train and guide volunteers and/or temporary assistants to safely help in tasks as needed or as assigned.
  • Plan and design efficient irrigation systems including drip and sprinkler setups.
  • Reads, interprets, and works from blueprints, diagrams, and schematics, in addition to following verbal instructions.
  • Install or oversee installation of new irrigation systems according to plans and specifications.
  • Perform maintenance and ensure proper operation of environmental controls via the weather station.
  • Maintain a professional appearance that meets Gathering Place grooming standards.
  • Perform weekly visits to Guthrie Green and Discovery Lab to ensure proper operation of irrigation system.
  • Create and submit irrigation reports monthly outlining repairs, performance, water usage and/or other pertinent details 
  • Responsible for monitoring of the general landscape and irrigation maintenance, and repair activities including irrigation, radio equipment, and low voltage electrical repair; exercises safe work practices.
  • Must be willing and able to work varied and long shifts including holidays, weekends, and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience in irrigation management is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable through the park’s insurance carrier.
  • Certified Irrigation Technician (CIT) from the Irrigation Society required or able to obtain within 12 months of hire. 
  • Must have experience with irrigation control software i.e. Site Control, IQ4.

Skills and Experience:

  • Must have knowledge and experience with public parks, golf course or horticulture operations.
  • Must have ability to use analytical judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Must have strong interpersonal communication skills required for interaction. 
  • Must have strong customer service skills.
  • Must be able to use and care for hand tools, power tools, and other related equipment as necessary. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to complete the physical demands representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job are typical of a laborer, landscaper and/or installation crew.
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; dig; rake; twist; and use hands. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Requires occasional carries up to 100 pounds with the assistance of a two-wheel hand truck.
  • May be subject to exposure to excessive noise, extremes in temperature, humidity or wetness, dust, or chemicals, and require the use of special visual or auditory protective equipment.

Computer Proficiency:

  • Must be proficient with Word and Excel and be able to adapt well to various other computer programs.  

Safety-Sensitive:

This is a safety-sensitive position. Applicants, regardless of whether they are a medical marijuana licensee, must receive a negative result on a 10-panel, pre-placement drug screening to include THC, prior to beginning work.
