Description

Purpose:  This full-time position involves teaching 4 sections of middle school mathematics – 5th Grade Math & Pre-Algebra. The ESD Mathematics Department seeks a teacher who empowers students as a mathematical thinker by engaging them in challenging mathematics. The ideal candidate is a passionate teacher, willing to collaborate effectively with colleagues to build and implement a robust interdisciplinary mathematics program for a diverse range of learners. Enthusiasm for using educational technology and embracing project-based learning will also be given high consideration. 


Essential Functions: 

  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with students. 
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising students.
  • Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Teach Middle School Mathematics (Math 5 & Pre-Algebra),  delivering instruction aligned with ESD’s Statement of Educational Philosophy and Mission. 
  • Serve as an advisor to a group of students (8-10), providing integral and varied support, planning, and oversight to advisees, while communicating effectively with parents.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Work closely with colleagues on the school’s curricular initiatives.
  • Engage in reflective practice and professional development.
  • Utilize appropriate technology in support of the curriculum of the twenty-first-century global classroom.
  • Support student learning by working with individual students and small groups before and/or after the school day. 
  • Participate in and contribute to the life of the school beyond the classroom.
  • Engage in professional activities and gatherings at team, departmental, divisional, and school-wide levels.
  • Help chaperone grade-level trips, including occasional overnight trips.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 


Abuse Risk Management Standards:

Working Environment:

  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
  • Generally, 40% sitting, 40% walking, and 20% standing.
  • Minimal temperature variations
  • Off-site travel to include rustic environments and occasional overnight trips.
  • Generally, a hazard-free environment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics education, mathematics, or related field – Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Minimum 3 years experience as an Upper Elementary or Middle School math teacher preferred. 
  • Proficiency in educational technology and twenty-first-century pedagogy; familiarity with G Suite. 
  • Experience designing and implementing a rigorous mathematics curriculum at the middle school level.
  • Commitment to participate broadly and cheerfully in the life of the school. 
  • Possessing a growth mindset and a commitment to pursue professional development.  
  • Effective collaboration skills.
  • Experience serving as an advisor and sponsoring clubs and/or major activities is desirable.
