TITLE:   Summer Camp Musical Theatre Lead Teacher 

REPORTS TO: Director of Education

STATUS: Full-Time Temporary, Non-Exempt

HOURS: Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:30pm during our summer camp weeks

Summer Camp Staff Orientation: June 18-20, 2025

Summer MT Camp Weeks: July 7-11, July 21-25, July 28-August 1, 2025

About the Role

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to lead the delivery of hands-on learning to our musical theater campers. The Lead Teacher delivers educational programming for Summer Camps; assists children in having a safe, fun, and educational experience; presents educational lessons, activities, and demonstrations; and facilitates science center exploration time. Two lead teachers will be selected: music director (acting and singing) and choreographer. 


Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead instructor and facilitator for Summer Musical Theatre Camps delivering a successful, high quality camp performance at the end of the week. 
  • Assist the full time Education Department Staff with planning the weekly lessons to meet the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical needs of the individual; as well as the group as a whole, when asked.
  • Facilitate small group and full ensemble rehearsals and instruction.
  • Work collaboratively with other lead teacher.
  • Manage audition process and casting – mutually agreeable date selected in May.
  • Communicate with campers and families and distribute musical materials in advance of camp. 
  • Interact positively with the children, encouraging involvement  and supporting the individual needs.
  • Work with minimal supervision, assess situations, and make necessary decisions on the job in order to maintain and/or improve the quality of the camper experience informing the Director of Education of all actions taken.
  • Proactively address logistical and/or behavioral concerns, making sure to involve the Director of Education (when necessary) for a productive resolution.
  • Provide camp counselors with assignments/guidance throughout the duration of the camp day.
  • Facilitate lunch time, and camp games or activities.
  • Prepare your space for the days’ activities and clean-up the room at the conclusion of the day.
  • Maintain inventory of all summer camp materials. Alert Director of Education when supplies are low and need to be ordered.
  • Maintain familiarity with emergency procedures, and assist in implementing them if/when necessary.
  • Attend summer staff orientation, departmental meetings, and all-staff meetings as directed; staying informed of ongoing changes in department and overall organization.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Education in support of the organization’s mission and goals.
Requirements

 

Qualifications

  • College level education necessary. Bachelor of Arts or Science- Music, Theatre, Dance preferred.
    • Prior teaching experience necessary, preferably at the elementary or middle school level.
    • Prior experience in directing and/or choreographing student musicals is a must.
    • Work in a summer camp or co-teaching environment is recommended.
  • Ability to work Monday-Friday, full days for the 5-7 week period for all 3 weeks of Musical Theatre camp. 
  • Ability to successfully complete a Pennsylvania State Police Clearance; a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance - obtained through the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services; and a Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal History Record Information - obtained by submitting a full set of fingerprints to the Pennsylvania State Police or its authorized agent for submission to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

  • Physical Requirements
    • Ability to stand for long periods, climb stairs frequently, and lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to understand and obey safety rules and regulations related to all equipment, materials, and chemicals.
    • Must have a willingness to utilize the newest educational technologies available in all educational programs.
    • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with legal requirements.
    • Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly on the telephone.

Salary Description
$30-32/hour
