JOB OVERVIEW
The Coffee Attendant will perform a variety of customer service and food preparation tasks, ensuring that all products are prepared to the highest standards. The individual will be responsible for greeting customers, taking orders, preparing and serving coffee, espresso-based drinks, teas, and other specialty beverages, and food items such as sandwiches and pastries. This role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and attention to detail in maintaining product quality and cleanliness.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
• Greet customers in a polite, friendly, and professional manner, providing a positive first impression of the café.
• Accurately take and process customer orders for beverages and food items.
• Prepare and serve beverages including but not limited to drip coffee, espresso-based drinks, teas, and specialty drinks in accordance with company specifications.
• Prepare and serve food items such as sandwiches, pastries, and other café offerings, ensuring quality and consistency.
• Process transactions promptly and accurately using the point-of-sale (POS) system, including handling cash, credit card payments, and other forms of payment.
• Ensure all café equipment such as espresso machines, grinders, and coffee makers are properly maintained, cleaned, and serviced regularly.
• Monitor and maintain inventory of beverages, food items, and supplies, and notify management when stock levels are low.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary, and well-organized work environment, adhering to health and safety regulations.
• Address customer inquiries, concerns, or complaints professionally and promptly.
• Recommend and promote menu items to customers, tailoring suggestions based on customer preferences.
• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the café’s operational efficiency, workflow, and overall customer experience.
• Assist in the attraction of new customers while fostering customer loyalty through excellent service.
• Adhere to company policies regarding alcohol service (if applicable), safety, and sanitation practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
• Previous experience in a customer service or retail environment, preferably within the food and beverage industry.
• Basic knowledge of coffee and espresso preparation; barista training is desirable but not required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers and team members.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Familiarity with point-of-sale systems and cash handling procedures.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain high standards of quality and service.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Barista training or certification is a plus but not required.
• Health permit/food safety and alcohol awareness certification; staff member is required to obtain cards individually and provide proof of possession prior to first day of employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time while performing job duties.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
• Frequent use of hands and wrists for food and beverage preparation, cleaning, and operating equipment.
• Ability to work in a hot, noisy, and fast-paced environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• This position is primarily located in a café and restaurant environment with regular customer interaction in a high-traffic area.
• The role may involve exposure to noise, hot surfaces, and various food items, requiring adherence to safety and sanitation practices.
