Position: Full time, 32 hour/week, salaried, exempt, non-union.
SIGN ON BONUS: Amount would be $5,000. 25% paid after the probationary period is completed. 25% to be paid at
6 months and 50% to be paid after the first year of employment.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
1. Evaluates patients with speech, language, communication, cognitive-linguistic, and swallowing disorders upon provider referral using age-appropriate assessment methods.
2. Interprets evaluation findings to develop individualized treatment goals and plans of care designed to improve functional communication, cognition, and swallowing safety.
3. Provides speech-language pathology treatment interventions in accordance with the established plan of care to address communication, cognitive-linguistic, and swallowing impairments.
4. Monitors patient progress and modifies treatment goals and interventions as clinically appropriate in accordance with departmental policy and the plan of care.
5. Educates patients and family members regarding diagnoses, treatment strategies, home programs, safety recommendations, and compensatory techniques.
6. Communicates evaluation findings, treatment progress, and discharge recommendations with patients, families, referring providers, and members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
7. Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings, care coordination discussions, and family meetings when appropriate to support patient care and discharge planning.
8. Completes accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, treatments, reassessments, and discharge summaries in the electronic medical record in accordance with departmental, regulatory, and billing requirements.
9. Ensures appropriate billing and charge capture for services provided in accordance with hospital and payer requirements.
10. Maintains therapy supplies and equipment to ensure a safe and effective treatment environment and responds appropriately to patient care needs and emergencies.
11. Complies with hospital and departmental policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards while maintaining organized and prioritized patient care activities.
Quality Improvement: Actively participates in the Hospital-wide Quality Improvement Program, actively supports and implements Department-specific Quality improvement initiatives and projects, recommends process improvement as appropriate, reports any quality issues in service delivery and consistently commits to a focus on quality improvement and organizational excellence.
Disaster Management: As an employee of Penobscot Valley Hospital, the position has an inherent role to care for our community members when in need. To this regard, the incumbent will be expected to participate in emergency/disaster preparedness planning and drills as requested. Master’s degree in speech-language pathology. Current license or license eligible in the state of Maine. Must be eligible for or hold current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Ability to problem solve, with effective written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge base includes speech therapy assessment and treatment for all age groups from pediatrics to geriatrics. Valid Maine driver’s license.
