Position Overview

Ayers Saint Gross is seeking an experienced Academic Health Science Space Programmer. This role will focus on providing deep knowledge and thought leadership in the planning and design of health science education environments. The ideal candidate brings expertise in academic health science programming, strong communication skills, and the ability to guide and mentor teams in best practices and emerging trends.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as a firm-wide subject matter expert (SME) in academic health science education programming and planning.
  • Lead the development of data-driven space metrics, from high-level planning assumptions to detailed program requirements.
  • Provide thought leadership and establish the narrative “story” for pursuits and projects, ensuring high-quality content and effective communication of complex information.
  • Lead or co-lead client presentations and act as a trusted advisor throughout the project.
  • Oversee the quality, clarity, and accuracy of deliverables, including reports, graphics, and information design.
  • Mentor and guide internal teams to build expertise in health science programming and planning.
  • Share and market the firm’s expertise through internal communications, conference attendance, presentations, publications, and other industry engagements.
  • Collaborate with marketing and project leadership to develop pursuit narratives, strategic positioning, and interview presentations.
  • Maintain and grow knowledge of health science education trends, design principles, and      learning environments.
Requirements
  • Professional degree in Architecture preferred; candidates with advanced experience as a health sciences educator or practitioner (medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, allied health, or public health) will also be considered.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in academic health sciences, either in architectural planning/programming/design of facilities or as a practitioner/educator in the field.
  • Recognized expertise in health sciences labs, skills labs, simulation environments, and academic facilities.

  • Strong ability to communicate complex ideas visually and verbally to clients and internal teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, and/or preferred.
  • Exceptional graphic communication skills with the ability to distill and clearly present complex data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Passion for design thinking.
  • Self-starter with curiosity and drive to advance best practices in health science programming.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
  • Willingness to travel for project-related work and conferences.

The salary range for this position is $100,000-120,000 annually. The actual salary offered for this position will vary depending on multiple factors including the candidate’s qualification, education, position knowledge, work experience, skills, ability, work location, and internal incumbent compensation for similar roles. We do not anticipate individuals hired into this position will start at or near the top half of the range listed; the decision will be based on each individual case. The salary range listed above does not include other compensation elements such as discretionary bonus opportunities, employee stock ownership grants, paid time off, medical insurance, and other wage and benefit opportunities.
