Description

The Part-Time Staff Accountant supports the Rock Church Finance Department by ensuring accurate and timely financial recordkeeping and compliance. This role assists in various aspects of general accounting, cash receipts, bank reconciliations, inventory and sales tax reporting, and audit preparation. The Staff Accountant works closely with the Controller to maintain strong internal controls, data integrity, and financial transparency. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced ministry environment with a part-time, in-office schedule. Approximately 24 hours per week. Tuesday through Thursday; schedule may vary depending on month-end and year-end close cycles


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enforce financial procedures and internal controls; provide input on process improvements and compliance.
  • Record weekly cash receipts for all Rock Church campuses and ministry revenue streams.
  • Reconcile inventory on a quarterly basis and prepare related sales tax filings and payments.
  • Support year-end processes, including DE542 filings and 1099 reporting.
  • Assist with monthly close activities, including journal entries, posting, and general ledger maintenance to ensure the accuracy of financial statements.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations for multiple accounts, including escheatment tracking and reporting.
  • Maintain the integrity of financial data in the general ledger and associated output reporting tools.
  • Assist with balance sheet reconciliations, database management, and loan accruals.
  • Support audit preparation and provide the requested documentation for external auditors.
  • Maintain and support the use of Concur, including expense reporting and workflow support.
  • Participate in weekly count room procedures to assist in secure cash handling and documentation.
  • Perform other core accounting tasks and special projects as assigned by the Controller.
Requirements

Job-related Qualifications:

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of hands-on accounting experience, ideally in a nonprofit, church, or multi-entity organization.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Desktop and  Microsoft Excel required.
  • Familiarity with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Experience with Concur or similar expense management platforms preferred.

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in handling sensitive financial data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, and reconciliations).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively under deadline pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Adaptability and initiative in a dynamic, ministry-focused workplace.

Organizational and Spiritual Requirements:

  • Member of the Rock Church (or willing to transfer membership to the Rock Church).
  • Demonstrate Christ-centered behavior at all times by treating people with dignity, respect, compassion, and integrity.
  • Utilize the principles of Matthew 18 and Ephesians 4:15 to resolve differences of opinion with others. 
  • Successful completion of a thorough pre-employment references and background checks, which includes: social security verification, Local, State, & Federal criminal conviction records search, national security database, and sex offender registry.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings and events. This includes serving at Good Friday, Easter, and Christmas services as well as the annual volunteer appreciation event.
  • Regular involvement in Rock Church activities, ministries, and events.
  • Tithe 10% to the Rock Church.
  • Signed acknowledgment of the Rock’s Statement of Faith.
  • Ability to interpret and adhere to the Rock’s policies, procedures, and employee handbook.
