Description
The Gymnastics Coordinator & Head Coach is responsible for overseeing and developing the gymnastics programs at Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara in a manner that reflects the mission, values, and goals of Girls Inc., and maintains an outstanding, customer-centric model that ensures enrollment, impact, and organizational objectives are met. Must have availability to work evenings and weekends, as well as the ability to travel across Southern California during the competition season.
The following statements reflect the general duties, responsibilities and competencies considered necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Develop, manage, and implement training programs for gymnasts of various levels, including the Girls Inc. Gymnastics Competitive Xcel Team program.
- Coach weekly recreational classes, as needed.
- Mentor and develop successful coaching staff through spotting techniques, online training, providing professional development opportunities, and evaluating performance.
- Provide a socially, emotionally, and physically safe environment by facilitating quality gymnastics practices.
- Supervise and guide coaching staff by providing feedback, support, and ensuring effective session delivery.
- Collaborate closely with gymnastics staff to finalize program planning, future needs and parent communication.
- Create a positive Girls Inc. community (gymnasts, families, community members, Girls Inc. employees)
Gym Program Operations
- Provides information to the gymnasts, parents, and guardians regarding gymnastics activities and upcoming events.
- Trains new coaches and ensures all coaches are using positive coaching techniques.
- Attends all clinics and seminars that pertain to the advancement of the gymnastics program, technique, and safety.
- Attends SoCal General Meeting annually.
- Organizes and maintains an accurate inventory of gymnastics equipment such as chalk, tape, ice packs, first aid supplies, etc. Makes recommendations to the Director of Programs for new equipment.
- Ensures gym equipment is safe and ready for use including repairs, removal of gym floor hazards, mat inspections, and gym organization.
- Organize clinics throughout the year to enhance gymnasts' growth and skill development.
- Collaborates with Gymnastics Office and Director of Programs with the following:
- Recruiting and hiring coaches
- Scheduling of all program classes
- Arranging to send coaches to Congress including accommodations
- Assists with staff trainings and meetings
- Updating the Team Handbook and gym communication annually
Xcel Competitive Team
- Provides gymnastic oversight, instruction, and spotting of Team athletes on all apparatus.
- Meets periodically with parents to provide feedback on gymnasts’ progress and informs them of any pertinent information such as meet schedules, payment due dates, upcoming events, showcases, etc.
- Responsible for ensuring team gymnasts have choreography, music selection and routine construction.
- Keeps records of team attendance, skill charts, session plans, etc. as required.
- Maintains USAG Athlete and club memberships and stays up to date on all USAG online training and updates.
- Enters gymnasts for all USAG meets and arranges accommodation for coaching staff, if applicable.
- Plans and organizes end of year Team awards, photos, celebrations, etc.
- Purchase Team leotards, warmups, gear etc.
- Meets on a weekly basis with other Team coaches to discuss, plan, and organize Team practices, goals, and objectives.
- Schedules Team coaches to attend meets/seminars as necessary and arranges travel including transportation, lodging, and other related expenses.
- Follow GIGSB and USAG established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
Quality Girls Inc. Experience
- Ensure the Girls Inc. Gymnastics environment is safe, clean, bright, positive, celebrates diversity, and is conducive for activities
- Provide mentoring approach for gymnasts and make sure every gymnast feels welcomed, accepted, and respected for who they are

General
- Actively engage in on-going staff trainings, meetings, workshops, and events
- Follow all Girls Inc. policies and procedures
- Collaborate with Program Managers and meet regularly to plan future programing and address any problems, concerns, needs, unusual circumstances of parents and/or gymnasts
- Respect and care for Girls Inc. property, equipment, and supplies
- Represent and promote Girls Inc. at local community events
Other
- As a mandated reporter, report suspected child abuse in accordance with California law
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including private lessons, clinics, and providing support for all programs.

Requirements
- Associate's degree education, psychology, sociology or similar social sciences and/ or a minimum of 5 years' experience working with children in the gymnastics field.
- Experience creating and implementing a progressive gymnastics curriculum that takes into consideration the needs of the surrounding neighborhood, staff experience, and management philosophy.
- Clean criminal record
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug-screening
- Proof of vaccination per licensing requirements (Pertussis and Measles immunization. Flu vaccine recommended, but optional)
- Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within the first 30 days of employment.
- Strong communication skills and ability and desire to work as a member of a diverse and dynamic team
Salary Description
$68,000-$72,000
