We are seeking responsible, enthusiastic, and flexible Substitute Teachers to provide instruction and support in our daycare (ages 2-4) and classrooms (grades K-8) when regular teachers are absent. The Substitute Teacher is expected to implement lesson plans left by the classroom teacher, manage student behavior, and create a safe and positive learning environment.

Established in 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, Westchester Day School, a Modern Orthodox, co-educational, dual curriculum Jewish elementary school (2-year-olds through 8th grade), prepares students to live as mensches and lifelong learners and inspires them to impact the world around them by cultivating a commitment to Torah, midot, community and academic rigor.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver lessons and activities based on the teacher’s prepared plans.
- Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and other areas as needed.
- Maintain classroom routines and expectations.
- Provide feedback to the regular teacher regarding student behavior and completion of lessons.
- Adapt teaching methods to meet student needs as appropriate.
- Uphold school policies, rules, and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with students and school staff.
- Ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree or coursework in education preferred.
- Valid teaching certificate or substitute teaching permit (as required by state or district).
- Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting is a plus.
- Strong communication and classroom management skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain a positive and professional demeanor.
Salary range for this role is $16.50/hour- $21.50/ hour, depending upon education and experience.
