Description

LAC Federal is seeking Workflow Coordinators to work at a federal library in Alexandria, VA. The Coordinators will perform a variety of administrative, technical, and related duties in support of the library. Depending on experience, individual staff may work in one or multiple task areas including circulation, ready reference, interlibrary loan, acquisitions processing, cataloging, collections maintenance. Other tasks may include providing quality control reviews and support for applicant-supplied information.  


Responsibilities

  • Performs several administrative and technical duties in support of either a federal scientific or law library
  • Works independently while maintaining production standards in a variety of settings.
  • Provides management with workflow recommendations and assists with troubleshooting performances/standards issues. 
  • Specific duties may vary but will include one or more of the following
  • Provides reference desk support requiring knowledge of a variety of scientific and technical resources and on-line cataloging systems such as Horizon; verifies bibliographic information for customers. 
  • Review technical and scientific information and data input by other employees for correct formatting and completeness 
  • Provides acquisition support, verifies bibliographic information and formats, places orders using an internal database, provides support such as copy cataloging and editing existing MARC records. 
  • Verifies links of electronic resources, conducts physical collection maintenance and checks in serials in various formats. Troubleshoots work and resolves discrepancies as required.
  • Provides interlibrary loan and reference fulfillment support by performing a quality check of completed work (correct document obtained for requester); applies troubleshooting skills to research more difficult requests for resolution and processes and forwards documents via electronic means (e.g. email).
  • Reviews reports for accuracy and compliance with specific guidelines and  annotates errors to alert the applicant on how to correctly fix the error. 
  • Processes and prepares reports for publication and issuance, and performs related quality control. Provides training on above tasks and/or acts as back-up to others to coordinate workflow as required.
  • Troubleshoots work and resolves discrepancies as required.
Requirements
  • Possesses a 2-year associate degree or relevant experience. (4-year degree preferred)
  • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent customer
  • service skills.
  • Must possess demonstrated ability for high production and accuracy.
  • Must possesses the ability to work under pressure.
  • Must possess the knowledge to use Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must possess the ability to multi-task and problem solve.
  • Must possess knowledge about library or information center operations.
  • Possesses the ability to quickly learn new technical skills, procedures, and specialized software applications.
  • Must possess demonstrated ability to provide training to others.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

 Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves; lift/push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
