Weaver’s Way Co-Op Job Description
Position: Deli/Sandwich Staff
Reports to: Deli Manager or Supervisor
PURPOSE
To provide excellent customer service while maintaining well-stocked displays, fulfilling meat orders, sandwich making, kitchen prep work, and keep a neat and clean work environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Member/Shopper Service
- Greet shoppers in a friendly manner
- Treat shoppers fairly, consistently, and with respect
- Respond quickly and courteously to all requests and complaints from shoppers and work to ensure that all members feel satisfied after any interactions
- Become familiar with co-op policies and products in order to answer shopper questions; refer unresolved questions to the manager on duty or other appropriate staff member
- Assist customers with placing or picking up special and pre-orders
- Check in cooperators beginning work shifts
- Prepare work in anticipation of cooperators arriving for a work shift
- Set up, assist, and supervise cooperators in a friendly manner and for effectiveness and efficiency
- Inform the manager on duty in a timely manner regarding cooperator no-shows
- Take the initiative to increase your knowledge about the products offered in this department
Product Responsibility
- Store, price, rotate, and attractively display and discount products according to departmental procedures
- Ensure that product labels are accurate, complete, and current
- Oversee back stock in the walk-in box and other areas for proper rotation, storage, and timeliness of display
- Maintain department signs and ensure legibility and accuracy
- Order products as assigned by the deli manager
Receiving Deliveries
- Check deliveries against invoices/packing slips to insure accuracy
- Promptly and properly store all orders received
Plant and Equipment/Safety
- Use safe practices while using slicers, knives, and other equipment
- Maintain all work and display areas in sanitary, orderly condition, meeting health department standards
- Maintain back stock and supply storage areas for cleanliness and orderliness
- Check equipment to assure safe and proper operation and report maintenance needs to the manager on duty
Sandwich Clerk Duties
- At least 1-year of experience making sandwiches to order.
- At least 1-year of experience in a mass production/high volume kitchen.
- Excellent knife skills.
- Cooking knowledge is a plus.
Other Duties
- Observe all Weavers Way policies and procedures
- Participate in periodic store inventory counts
- Attend departmental and all-staff meetings as scheduled
- Perform other duties as assigned by the manager on duty, department manager, or general manager
Schedule
- 35+ hour per week Open Availability (opening/closing and mid shifts)

QUALIFICATIONS
- Commitment to the mission and goals of Weavers Way Co-operative Association
- Ability to work well in a team setting
- Good communications skills with supervisors, coworkers, and members
- Ability to courteously and efficiently serve members
- Ability to supervise cooperators
- Ability to multi-task, set priorities, and remain calm under stress
- Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment when necessary
- Ability to follow through on commitments
- Knowledge of products retailed through this department, with emphasis on cheeses, baked goods, natural and gourmet foods
- Ability to use a deli slicer, knives and other tools and equipment safely
- Ability to maintain clean work and display areas in accordance with food hygiene standards
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Be or become upon hiring a member in good standing of Weavers Way Co-op
Salary Description
$17.00 per hour
