JOB DESCRIPTION

LPN Shift Nurse

Summary

The LPN Shift Nurse applies nursing principles and techniques in the care and treatment of the youth at Apalachicola Forest Youth Camp. He/she accepts responsibilities from the Director of Nursing, the Program Administrator, the Medical Director, and the facility physician. The LPN Shift Nurse’s primary concern is ensuring the health of the program youth. Additionally, the LPN Shift Nurse will provide direct patient care and treatment, prepare and maintain clinical records and initiate patient care plans. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Responsibilities and Duties

Applies nursing principles and techniques in the care and treatment of 

patients.

· Creates, manages, and coordinates patient care plans at AFYC.

· Assesses patient health and needs.

· Observes patients for deviations from normal conditions.

· Prepares clinical charts

· Takes vital signs

· Charts and records administration of medication and treatment

· Assists in longitudinal program studies.

Manages and coordinates the medication administration at AFYC.

· Prepares narcotic reports and orders drugs.

· Gives medication.

· Maintains inventor of clinical supplies and drugs.

Provides care and assists physicians. 

· Prepares or coordinates the preparation of clinic rooms and equipment.

· Maintains a clean and organized office area and equipment.

· Communicates to supervisor the maintenance needs of office equipment and supply needs.

· Assists physicians in conducting examinations.

· Obtains specimens for laboratory examination.

· Performs related work as required.

· Maintains a professional and role modeling appearance and conduct at all times.

Attends staff meetings, training sessions, conference traveling, outside training sessions and other meetings as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

· Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques

· Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.

· Ability to administer prescribed medications.

· Ability to communicate effectively.

· Ability to provide direct patient care and treatment

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

1. Licensure as a Practical Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27.

2. Meet criminal background check and drug screening per state requirements

3. Maintain a current Florida State Driver’s License.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

1.Certification of CPR/Choke Relief and First Aid within first 2 weeks of employment

2.Completion of 4 hour HIV/AIDS education course in accordance with F.S. Chapter 381 within six 

months of employment. Two hour update required biennially

3.Completion of the approved Department of Children and Families Physical Intervention training

4.Completion of Confidentiality training within first 6 months of employment

5.Completion of Cultural Diversity training within first 6 months of employment
