The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is a national, nonprofit public charity dedicated to finding permanent homes for the more than 140,000 children waiting in North America’s foster care systems. Created by Wendy’s® founder Dave Thomas, who was adopted, the Foundation implements evidence-based, results-driven national service programs, foster care adoption awareness campaigns and innovative grantmaking. 


STATEMENT OF PURPOSE


Under the leadership of the human resources director, the HR manager, talent & operations will provide essential support to HR functional areas, including talent acquisition, talent management and general HR operations. This position leads efforts in recruiting, hiring and onboarding top talent, in addition to supporting employee engagement initiatives, ensuring HR compliance and assisting with broader HR operations to enhance the overall employee experience. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented and thoughtful about creating a positive and supportive employee experience.


ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. With oversight of the HR director, oversee the full recruitment lifecycle, including job postings, sourcing, screening and coordinating interview logistics; serve as the primary point of contact for candidates, ensuring a positive candidate experience
  2. Proactively source and engage with potential candidates to build a future talent pipeline for current and future hiring needs; create, track and generate reports on key HR metrics related to recruitment, onboarding, offboarding and data insights to inform strategic decision making 
  3. Partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and develop inclusive, mission-aligned recruitment strategies and sourcing channels ensuring adherence to Foundation talent acquisition guidelines; provide guidance related to career leveling; develop and update job descriptions 
  4. Coordinate the pre-boarding and onboarding process, ensuring timely completion of offer letters, employment verifications and new hire paperwork, partner with cross-functional teams (hiring manager, IT, facilities, etc.) to ensure new hires have all necessary tools and comprehensive training plans to support a smooth transition into the Foundation
  5. Prepare and maintain new hire orientation materials, and facilitate orientation meetings to review policies, procedures and benefits; assist in developing and refining onboarding materials  
  6. Provide training to hiring managers and interview teams on compliant, equitable and effective recruitment practices
  7. Partner with the HR Director to implement employee engagement programs and support organizational culture initiatives; support the setup, logistics and planning of company-wide staff meetings, engagement initiatives and training and development opportunities
  8. Update and maintain confidential employee records, including personnel files, ATS and recruitment records and HRIS as needed; handle confidential matters with discretion
  9. Provide other generalist duties including, supporting talent management processes and initiatives; supporting HR projects to improve processes and create efficiencies; draft and contribute to HR policies and procedures
  10. Ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws and Foundation policies; maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law
  11. Perform other duties as necessary or required

  • Strong understanding of general human resources policies and procedures; extensive talent acquisition experience and application of talent best practices
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships and tailor messages effectively to different audiences; consistently represent the company’s value, culture and mission to attract top talent and build trust with candidates and employees
  • A proactive, customer-service oriented approach to work, with a focus on creating positive experiences for employees and candidates
  • Proficiency in HR software, project management tools (e.g., Asana), and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); experience with analyzing data 
  • Experience working within structured organizations; takes initiative and drives work forward independently, while remaining receptive to leadership input; demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous improvement and ongoing professional development
  • Ability to project confidence, credibility and professionalism in all interactions; demonstrate strong self-awareness with the ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and discretion while maintaining confidentiality

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources business administration or related field 
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in human resources required, 8+ years preferred 
  • Previous full cycle recruitment experience required 
  • SHRM-CP or PHR credential a plus
  • Experience with HRIS software preferred
