Occupational Therapy Technician – Outpatient Orthopedic Clinic

Job Summary
The Occupational Therapy Technician supports licensed occupational therapists in delivering high-quality care to patients recovering from orthopedic injuries, surgeries, and upper-extremity conditions. This role emphasizes assisting with therapeutic exercises, maintaining clinic flow, and ensuring a clean, organized treatment environment.

  

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient treatment      sessions 
    • Guide patients through       therapist-prescribed exercises (e.g., range of motion, strengthening,       fine motor tasks) 
    • Help position patients and       ensure proper body mechanics during activities 
    • Provide motivation and reinforce       therapist instructions 
  • Set up and maintain therapy      equipment 
    • Prepare modalities and tools       (e.g., resistance bands, hand therapy equipment, splints, paraffin baths)       
    • Clean and sanitize equipment       between patients following clinic protocols 
  • Support upper-extremity rehab 
    • Assist with hand, wrist, elbow,       and shoulder therapy activities 
    • Help with splint       application/removal under therapist direction 
  • Ensure efficient clinic flow 
    • Prepare treatment areas quickly 
    • Monitor session timing and       assist with transitions between patients 
    • Keep supplies stocked
  • Administrative support 
    • Schedule appointments and       confirm visits 
    • Document scanning
  • Observe and report 
    • Communicate patient responses,       discomfort, or changes to the therapist 
  • May Require travel between North      and South locations
  • Other Duties as assigned

  

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced outpatient orthopedic      clinic 
  • Frequent interaction with post-op      and injury recovery patients 
  • Team-based setting with      therapists, assistants, and front office staff 

Preferred Skills & Traits

  • Interest in orthopedics, sports      rehab, or hand therapy 
  • Strong multitasking ability in a      busy clinic 
  • Good understanding of basic      anatomy (especially upper extremity) 
  • Physical ability to assist      patients and remain on feet for extended periods 
  • Clear communication and a      professional, energetic demeanor 

  

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent      required 
  • Prior experience in a rehab,      athletic training, or fitness setting preferred 
  • CPR/BLS certification often      preferred
