Are you passionate about libraries and community engagement? Join the Moreno Valley Public Library team as a Branch Manager 3, overseeing the daily operations of the Main Library. As Branch Manager 3, you will oversee day-to-day operations of a large library branch, providing exceptional library services while ensuring policies and procedures are implemented effectively and efficiently. You will encourage staff contributions and personal professional development while fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible work environment. The Branch Manager 3 will lead a team of library professionals who are committed to creating a thriving library in the heart of their community as they support and build a strong partnership with library patrons and their local community partners, ensuring the library is a welcoming space for all, which reflects community priorities.


The city of Moreno Valley (population over 213,000) is a progressive and diverse city with a bright future. Strategically located in the western region of Riverside County, Moreno Valley is about an hour’s drive east of Los Angeles, west of Palm Springs, and north of San Diego. LS&S operates the Main Library; two branches, Moreno Valley Mall Library and Iris Plaza Library; with the new Lakeshore Village Library branch slated to open at the end of the year.

Annual Salary : $74,880


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

  • Manage materials budget and oversee branch collection
  • Support staff to provide exceptional customer service by assisting patrons with inquiries, resolving issues promptly and professionally, and ensuring a welcoming and inclusive library environment
  • Lead and support staff training and development by identifying learning needs, organizing training sessions, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Oversee and develop library community programming and outreach initiatives 
  • Positively influence others to achieve results that are in the best interest of the organization
  • Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization
  • Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information and activities
  • Determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create and implement actions plans, and evaluate the process and results
  • Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem
  • Assesses options and actions based on trends and conditions in the environment, and the vision and values of the organization  
  • Know, understand and administer the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library; in addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library(ies)
  • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.
  • Serve as backup to the Library Director as needed, assuming leadership duties and ensuring continuity of operations in their absence.

Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required. 

  • An MLIS is required
  • One-year supervisory experience is required
  • One year of progressively responsible library managerial experience and/or administrative functions of a library, or equivalent knowledge is required
  • Experience in a role that requires frequent interaction with customers, fulfilling the requests of customers and responsibility for addressing customer issues, questions and suggestions is required
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required
  • Experience analyzing and applying financial reports and library related data (usage, demographics, trends, etc.) is preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens
    or detailed paperwork
  • Occasionally lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds such as files, books, and
    other materials
