Job Summary

The STS Fleet Operator (Non-CDL) is responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of goods using light vehicles, such as trucks or vans, with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of less than 26,001 pounds. Operators primarily transport merchandise, packages, and recyclable materials between company facilities, customers, and vendors while ensuring cargo security and timely deliveries.

Fleet Operators must adhere to all federal, state, and local transportation laws, as well as company safety policies and procedures. This role demands strong attention to detail, excellent time management, and physical endurance to handle loading, unloading, and long hours on the road. Operators must be capable of navigating diverse driving environments, including urban settings, busy highways, and tight loading zones.


Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Load and unload vehicles independently or with assistance, ensuring proper handling and securement of cargo.
  • Verify and maintain shipment documentation, ensuring accuracy between manifests, labels, and cargo details.
  • Conduct pre-trip, in-route, and post-trip inspections to maintain compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Transport freight safely while complying with traffic laws, weight restrictions, and company policies.
  • Maneuver vehicles in tight spaces such as congested streets, parking lots, and loading docks.
  • Maintain all required records, including trip logs, fuel receipts, and delivery confirmations.
  • Adhere to all company policies and federal, state, and local regulations for safe vehicle operation.
  • Promptly report any accidents, vehicle malfunctions, or irregularities encountered during transport.
  • Provide professional interactions with customers, coworkers, and third parties to uphold company reputation.


Accountabilities

  • Ensure the secure and professional transport of sensitive materials in compliance with company policies.
  • Maintain the safe and legal operation of company vehicles at all times.
  • Complete all required paperwork related to freight movement and vehicle operation accurately and on time.
  • Represent STS Recycling, LLC professionally through responsible driving and excellent customer service.


Qualifications & Requirements

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Preferably 21 years of age or older (exceptions may apply based on experience).
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math for receipt handling, log maintenance, and road sign interpretation.
  • Strong oral communication skills for clear interaction with dispatch and customers.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions via phone, in-person, or trip packets.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations related to safe driving and cargo securement.
  • Pass all required drug and alcohol screenings, including pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion tests.
  • Successfully complete a road test and participate in regular safety training sessions.


Physical Demands

  • Sit and remain alert while driving for extended periods.
  • Enter and exit the vehicle cab frequently, requiring bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, and balancing.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull freight up to 50 lbs., with occasional loads reaching up to 75 lbs.
  • Operate manual handling equipment such as pallet jacks or dollies as needed.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods on varying surfaces, including concrete and metal flooring.


Work Environment

  • Work involves both indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Work schedules may vary, including early morning, late evening, and occasional weekend shifts.
  • Driving conditions may include high-traffic areas, inclement weather, and road hazards.
  • Extended periods spent inside vehicles where noise and vibration levels may be elevated.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support company operations.
