Description

Position Summary

The Youth Care Worker plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, supervision, and well-being of unaccompanied children (UC) residing in the shelter. This position is responsible for maintaining continuous line-of-sight supervision, implementing trauma-informed care practices, and supporting the day-to-day operations of the residential program. Youth Care Workers assist with documentation, behavior support, and program activities while fostering a structured, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment 


 

Essential Duties  

  • Acquire, maintain, and demonstrate knowledge of Prevention of Sexual Abuse (PSA) and Sexual Harassment standards at care provider facilities, as well as evidence-based and trauma-informed care practices, while maintaining a professional environment consistent with Title 22, licensing regulations, and agency policies. 
  • Provide continuous supervision of youth in 24/7 residential care to ensure safety, well-being, and compliance with ORR supervision requirements. 
  • Maintain vigilant line-of-sight supervision at all times and respond quickly and effectively to crisis situations using behavior management intervention and First Aid/CPR techniques as trained. 
  • Contribute to the implementation of a structured, trauma-informed environment that fosters positive behavior, community responsibility, and personal growth. 
  • Serve as a consistent role model for youth by modeling appropriate behavior, communication, and emotional regulation. 
  • Facilitate and engage youth in structured educational, recreational, and social activities, ensuring participation in daily programming as outlined on the Activities Calendar. 
  • Collaborate with Youth Care Workers, Case Managers, Clinicians, and other staff to address each child’s holistic needs and ensure coordinated care. 
  • Assist with transportation and accompany youth to appointments, family visits, court appearances, and community outings as assigned. 
  • Accurately complete and submit all required documentation including progress notes, incident reports, activity logs, and service forms within required timeframes. 
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all ORR, HHS, and agency policies and procedures related to youth safety, privacy, and reporting. 
  • Support daily operations and assist in ensuring adequate staffing ratios and coverage across cottages and program areas. 
  • Actively engage and encourage youth toward achieving treatment goals and participating in daily routines. 
  • Maintain facility safety and contribute to emergency drills, inspections, and preparedness efforts. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Pay Range: $18.38 - $22.98 per hour.

Requirements

Education / Experience Required 

  • High school diploma or equivalent degree, AA or BA/BS Degree preferred. 
  • Must be bilingual (English/Spanish). 
  • Minimum of 1 year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents. 

Clearances and Requirements  

  • Must successfully clear DOJ and FBI fingerprint checks.? 
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.? 
  • Valid California driver’s license and current auto insurance.? 
  • Proof of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases (e.g., Varicella, MMR, Tdap, TB, Influenza).? 
  • Completion of all required ORR trainings, including Employee Misconduct Acknowledgment, Code of Conduct, and Sexual Abuse and Harassment Prevention.? 
  • Must be able to successfully complete and maintain required certifications and training including, but not limited to, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and First Aid/CPR. 
Salary Description
$18.38 - $22.98 per hour
