Pharmacy Technician
Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

In-Clinic Rx is a privately owned pharmacist collective offering both independent pharmacy, consulting, and clinical services located inside established medical facilities. The Pharmacy Technician role plays a vital role in supporting pharmacists and healthcare providers in delivering exceptional patient care within a clinical environment. This position is responsible for medication preparation, inventory management, patient assistance, and administrative tasks within a fast-paced clinical setting. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Medication Preparation:
  • Prepare and dispense medications accurately and efficiently under the supervision of the pharmacist.
  • Compound sterile and not-sterile medications, including intravenous (IV) admixtures and chemotherapy agents, following established protocols and guidelines.
  • Perform medication calculations and ensure proper labeling and packaging of medications.

2. Inventory Management:

  • Assist in maintaining pharmacy inventory levels by ordering, receiving, and stocking medications and supplies.
  • Monitor medication expiration dates and remove expired or recalled medications from inventory.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies as needed.

3. Patient Assistance:

  • Assist patients with medication selection, provide information on medication use, and answer medication-related inquiries.
  • Process prescription orders, refill requests, and medication prior authorizations accurately and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to resolve medication-related issues and ensure optimal therapy outcomes for patients.

4. Administrative Tasks:

  • Maintain accurate patient records and pharmacy documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Enter prescription orders and patient information into the pharmacy computer system with diligence and accuracy.
  • Assist in billing and insurance claims processing, including verifying insurance coverage and obtaining prior authorizations when necessary.

5. Quality Assurance:

  • Adhere to pharmacy policies, procedures, and quality standards to ensure safe and effective medication management.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and medication safety programs to enhance patient care and minimize medication errors.
  • Report any medication discrepancies, adverse drug reactions, or potential safety concerns to the supervising pharmacist promptly.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a pharmacy technician training program preferred.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification or eligibility for certification required.
  • Previous experience in a clinical pharmacy setting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and medication safety practices.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to use a keyboard to enter and retrieve data.
  • Must have good eyesight to view computer monitor and phone.
  • Lifting and/or carrying of 5 to 20 lbs. 
  • Willing to travel <5%
