Summary: The Supervising Teacher Therapist provides supervision to assigned staff and program coordination and consultation to teachers regarding behavioral and teaching strategies. Demonstrates an ability to apply trauma-informed principles and integrates them into daily practice. Communicates effectively and promotes collaborative problem solving by demonstrating care and respect in considering the diverse experiences and perspectives of others.
LOCATION: Hammitt School on Oglesby, 612 Oglesby Ave, Normal, IL
HOURS: Mon-Fri , school day schedule generally 8a -3:30p (2:30p during summer school), 37.5 + hrs/week paid over applicable breaks per schedule
PAY: $5,000 sign-on bonus for external candidates, $58,000 - $75,000/year based on experience and certifications
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Program Coordination: Works cooperatively with classroom teachers to maintain and foster a coordinated program for children.
2. Consultation with Teachers: Serves as a consultant to classroom teachers in developing and implementing behavioral and teaching strategies.
3. Performance Feedback: Provides oral and written feedback on performance of assigned staff, based on co-teaching activities and formal staff observation.
4. Personnel Management: Responsible for assigned staff, including employment, training, supervision, support, and performance feedback, including timely completion performance evaluations.
5. Staff Supervision: As delegated by the Director of Academic Services, assumes responsibility for formal supervision of staff, including staff evaluation, approval of time off/arranging staff coverage (including sick time) and maintains staff accountability for lesson plans, data and analysis and report writing.
6. Staff Development: Participates in the development and monitoring of comprehensive staff development and competency-based training programs.
7. Teaching: Provides classroom coverage for teachers involved in providing transition or other services.

1. Bachelor’s degree in appropriate area of education and/or early childhood education, specializing in teaching children with one or more of the following disabilities: Emotional Disability, Intellectual Disability, Specific Learning Disability, Speech or Language Impairment, Other Health Impairment, Developmental Delay, Autism, and Traumatic Brain Injury.
2. Certification with the State of Illinois in Special Education in one or more of the above-mentioned disabilities. LBS1 certification is preferred.
3. Five years of teaching and/or supervisory experience required.
4. Excellent communication skills required.
5. Demonstrated leadership skills.
6. Willingness and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team structure.
7. Knowledge of and skill in utilizing behavioral approaches with children.
8. Must be able to implement non-violent physical crisis intervention techniques according to The Baby Fold’s physical management and crisis intervention procedures.
9. Ability and willingness to travel for job responsibilities preferred, including a valid Illinois driver’s license, which has not been revoked or suspended within the past three years and use of a personal vehicle with adequate insurance.
10. Must pass necessary background checks.
11. Demonstrated competence in serving a culturally diverse population. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse workforce.
