Intern Outpatient Mental Health Therapist

POSITION OVERVIEW

An internship is an unpaid clinical position. Internships range from 9-16 months depending on the graduate program requirements. An intern provides counseling to individuals, couples and families aged 3 through adulthood. Interns are expected to work a minimum of 16 hours per week.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Provide all services using a strength-based, trauma-informed, family-focused approach.
  • Maintains documentation in a timely, thorough, and accurate manner
  • Collects and monitors all required data and outcomes for clients.
  • Complete a two-day orientation at CFAR in which mandatory training is completed, policies and procedures are reviewed and training in clinical documentation takes place.
  • Attend bi-weekly group supervision and weekly individual supervision. Interns are to come prepared to supervision with cases to present, bringing at least one video-taped session bi-weekly for supervisors to review.
  • Interns are expected to take no more than two weeks' vacation annually throughout their internship which much be approved by their immediate supervisor. 
  • Interns are expected to work all a minimum of 16 hours weekly in CFARs physical offices unless there are special circumstances in which prior approval is given.
  • Responsible for seeing 10 clients a week and a minimum of 300 client contact hours annually which aligns with most graduate school requirements.
  • Schedule all clients in our electronic health record system and complete all progress notes by Monday morning at 9am.
  • Complete treatment plans and obtain client signatures according to CFAR policy.
  • Discharge clients and complete paperwork for clients who have not been seen within 30 days. 
  • Make best efforts to engage clients in treatment processing successes and challenges with supervisors.
  • Attend monthly team meetings.
  • Complete incident reports within 24 hours
  • Abide by the AAMFT Code of Ethics and all other CFAR policies and procedures.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a bachelor's degree and be actively enrolled in a master's program with at least one year of graduate study in the field of psychology, marriage and family therapy, art therapy or related program.
  • Previous mental health or human service experience a plus
  • Experience with diverse client groups a plus
  • Have a valid Child Abuse Clearance and Criminal Background Check, FBI Clearance, two letters of recommendation and proof of general liability insurance.
  • Complete the Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse training upon hire.
  • Experience using electronic health records a plus.

  • Frequent communications verbal and written

  • Heavy daily use of technology (PC, applications, phones) to perform essential job functions.
  • Occasionally lifts and moves material objects weighing less than 40lbs.
