Description
The Coordinator of Nullity and Marriage Preparation is responsible for coordinating annulments and marriage preparation at the parish. The coordinator accompanies Individuals seeking annulments and couples seeking marriage preparation by conducting interviews, offering guidance and support, and ensuring that all paperwork is filled out correctly for filing.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Marriage Coordination
- Serve as the initial point of contact for couples preparing for marriage, providing guidance on requirements and necessary paperwork.
- Prepare wedding files with all necessary prerequisites and paperwork for filing at the Diocese of Phoenix, parish, or Tribunal based on circumstances.
- Prepare and file all necessary paperwork including, but not limited to, delegation letters, permission letters, wedding notebooks, mixed-marriage petitions, etc.
- Coordinate volunteer mentor couples to ensure that each couple seeking marriage preparation is paired with an appropriate mentor couple; maintain mentor tracking spreadsheet.
- Track wedding and marriage preparation fee payments in coordination with front desk.
- Ensure timely communication with couples, clergy, mentor couples, and wedding coordinator.
- Maintain accurate records of volunteer mentor couples and ensure proper documentation is on file.
- Coordinate with clergy and couples to ensure that each couple is assigned the appropriate priest or deacon for their wedding.
- Manage marriage department budget
Annulment Coordination
- Serve as the initial point of contact for those seeking an annulment.
- Accompany individuals through the annulment process, from initial inquiry, to answering questions, providing support, and then filing of annulment.
- Assist petitioners as needed, providing guidance and assistance.
- File annulment petitions with the Tribunal office
Requirements
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in marriage ministry or pastoral care.
- Understanding of Catholic theology on the Sacrament of Marriage; and understanding and working knowledge of all applicable church documents on marriage life.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and related programs.
- Certification in marriage-related programs (FOCCUS, marriage preparation facilitator, nullity minister etc. Training is available through the parish and Diocese.)
- Understanding and familiarity with Ignatian Spirituality.
- Bi-lingual is preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
- Requires weekend, holiday, and evening work for meetings and events. Requires some variable hours and on-call response after regular business hours to meet the needs of the parish.
- Must be capable of lifting 30+ pounds
