Wedgworth’s Inc. is seeking a skilled Mechanic to join our team at our Lake Placid location. If you have strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on repair experience, and welding skills, this may be the perfect opportunity for you. In this role, you will assemble, maintain, and repair machinery, trailers, and trucks to ensure they operate safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to quality workmanship and safety.
Responsibilities
- Build and assemble machines or mechanical components according to specifications
- Inspect and diagnose mechanical issues on machinery, engines, and transmissions
- Perform repairs to ensure maximum functionality and reliability
- Troubleshoot and resolve reported problems in a timely manner
- Conduct preventive maintenance on equipment, vehicles, and system
- Clean and lubricate machinery components
- Replenish fluids and replace worn parts as needed
- Advise users on proper maintenance and preventative measures
- Assist with hydraulic system repairs, welding, tank painting, and related duties
- Keep accurate maintenance logs and report any issues
- Perform welding and fabrication as required
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Requirements & Skills
- Proven experience as a Mechanic
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Skilled in using hand tools and precision measurement instruments (e.g., calipers, gauges)
- Ability to read and follow blueprints, instructions, and standard operating procedures
- Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to work safely and follow all company health and safety guidelines
- Physically capable of handling tools, equipment, and machinery components
- Must have a good driving record
- Must provide your own hand tools
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational certification or apprenticeship completion is a plus
- Welding (stainless steel experience preferred)
- Knowledge of DOT regulations is a plus
- Flexible and dependable work ethic
- DOT awareness and knowledge is a plus
Wedgworth's, Inc. is a drug free workplace and EOE. We have fertilizer blending locations in Moore Haven and Lake Placid as well as a crop protection distribution center in Lake Placid. We operate a large trailer fleet and have semi-trucks as well as passenger vehicles in our fleet. We have forklifts, front end loaders, and aerial lifts. All of our trailers and semi-trucks are under DOT regulations. The blending plants are classified as industrial locations.
Are required to be physically fit and able to do heavy lifting work. Heavy lifting is generally described as 50 pounds repetitively being lifted with maximum lifting being up to 100 pounds. They must be able to reach above their head to lift, tighten, clean, carry, paint and grease, etc. The workload requires repetitive neck, hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, leg, knee, ankle, back and abdomen motion. They also have to be able to climb, carry, lift, hold, crawl, bend, reach, twist, stand, walk, sit, drive, pull, push, squat, sweep, squeeze, grip, hold and shovel. The reading, writing, and understanding of the English language is critical to safety of the employee and others around him/her. Must be able to tolerate an un-air-conditioned, hot, dusty, fast paced environment without the fear of heights or ladders. They should be agile, flexible, and limber. They must be able to tolerate heat, cold, and exposure to the elements including dusty environment. They must be able to wear a respirator including but not limited to N95 Mask, half face respirators, and full face respirators. (Please note there is an OSHA defined process of medical questionnaires and fit testing that will be involved.) They must be able to comply with insurance rules for driving as well as complying with state and federal driving compliance rules. Due to the nature of the business, all production and maintenance crew members should be able to report and work any day and any hour.
