Job Summary: The CAD Engineer II plays a key role in developing and managing 3D CAD models and technical drawings that support product design, engineering, and manufacturing processes. This mid-level role emphasizes 3D modeling as a primary responsibility, ensuring accurate, functional digital representations of parts, assemblies, and systems. Working with moderate supervision, CAD Engineer II transforms rough design concepts into complete and detailed CAD deliverables, while coordinating closely with engineering and design teams to ensure quality and compliance with specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize CAD software to create 2D and 3D models using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
- Collaborate with more senior engineering and project managers to understand the design requirements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and company policies throughout the design process.
- Works on projects of moderate to high complexity with support.
- Generate engineering models, drawings, and bills of materials for new designs under direction.
- Interpret engineering sketches, layouts, and verbal instructions to produce accurate CAD outputs.
- Maintain organized project files and documentation for easy access and review.
- Approve mechanical models and drawings for release.
- Creates 3D models for tooling.
- Resolve discrepancies between design intent, markups, and final deliverables.
- Assist in the development and design of composite parts and molds.
- Generate engineering change notices as required.
- Evaluate vendor-supplied items for their suitability regarding fit, finish, and performance.
- Gain exposure to some of the more complex tasks within the job function.
- Complete other functions assigned by supervisor.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in CAD software, particularly SolidWorks.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and materials.
- Ability to create and interpret technical drawings and specifications for productions product requests.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to work closely with all members of the organization.
- Demonstrated organization and project management skills.
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
- Problem-solving skills and willingness to take initiative for decisions.
- Ability to juggle and manage competing tasks and demands and deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
Knowledge, Education, and/or Experience Required:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
- Demonstrated proficiency in 3D CAD Modeling experience, preferably SolidWorks and NX.
- 2 to 4 years of CAD experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of engineering principles and design practices.
- Desire to work in a “hands-on” environment.
Knowledge, Education, and/or Experience Preferred
- Experience in the marine industry.
- Experience with the development of composite parts.
- Knowledge of composite molding process.
- Experience with technical drawings and documentation.
- Ability to trailer a boat and operate.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature occasionally.
- Must be able to bend at the waist and knees and stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds when necessary.
- This is a safety-sensitive position.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be a licensed driver with a good driving record (subject to MVR).
