JOB SUMMARY:

Under direction ofSenior Management, the Director of Claims is primary responsible for directing and overseeing general claims operations, including all aspects of planning, implementing, controlling and monitoring of the claims operations. This position will have up to 4 direct managers reporting to the Director of Claims, and up to 20 supervisors and 140 other personnel. Must perform the essential functions of the position, which includes but is not limited to:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Development and management of material damage, property damage, and casualty/bodily injury technical claims operations, procedures and claims performance strategies;

2. Monitor, analyze and improve claims performance in all areas including, loss control, LAE, customer satisfaction, associate engagement and development;

3. In conjunction with Executive Leadership, creation of claims goals, objectives and strategic planning, budget planning and monitoring;

4. Ensuring regulatory compliance;

5. Leadership and management of claims professionals with the accountability to investigate evaluate and resolve claims or lawsuits;

6. Associate management including: projecting human resource needs, hiring and placement, performance management, salary planning & administration, training and development, workflow and organizational planning, and disciplinary action;

7. Complies with state and federal laws, Department of Insurance criteria, insurance carrier criteria and follows and enforces Aspire General Insurance Company/partner’s policies, procedure and work rules;

8. Communicate and provide timely notification to the Human Resources Department for all things related to employee attendance, punctuality or possible leave related situations;

9. Regular and predictable punctuality and attendance;

10. Other duties as necessary.

Requirements

  

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Must be a current manager level employee of Aspire claims or must have previously been a claims manager at a different insurance company (manager level = managing a team of supervisors and claims employees);
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • Eight plus years in property/casualty field technical claims operations, including at least five years in claims management;
  • California experience required, multi-state experience desired;
  • Understanding of claims systems, reserving philosophies and extensive knowledge of organizational and structural aspects of automobile claims handling including. This should include but not be limited to;
  • Material damage claims handling including salvage and subrogation;
  • Liability claims handling including investigation, evaluation and negotiation of liability claims;
  • A thorough understanding of bodily injury claim handling including litigation as well as familiarity with SIU practices;
  • Ability to create and implement best practices for the handling of automobile claims;
  • Ability to interpret coverage as well as a thorough knowledge of California mandated claims handling regulations with experience implementing these regulations;
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills, including the ability to recognize and improve claims performance;
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational management and leadership skills;
  •  Ability to work well under tight deadlines in a changing environment with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively;
  • Ability to work effectively and make sound judgment in decision-making both independently and within a collaborative team environment
  •  Can utilize general business computer skills including: word, excel and power point
  •  Must have a disciplined approach to all job-related activities;
  • Must have a solid foundation of personal organization, sound decision making and analytical skills, strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

  1. Ability to develop excellent working  relationships with Staff, Partners, Clients and Insurance Carriers;

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. This is an exempt position which complies with alternative work schedule when applicable;

2. This work environment is fast-paced and accuracy is essential to successful task completion;

3. The office is that of a highly technical company supporting a paperless environment;

4. Travel may be required;

5. Vision abilities to work at close range and with small print;

6. Physical efforts required include typing, repetitive small motor activity, grasping, stooping; reaching, standing, lifting light objects under 10 pounds frequently and climbing occasionally (small step ladder to reach supplies).

Salary Description
$115,000 - $160,000 yearly + 20% bonus
