Your Impact in the Operating Room
As an OR RN Circulator, you are the primary advocate for the patient while they are under anesthesia, managing all care from assessment to outcome evaluation:
- Clinical Oversight: Manage all necessary care inside the surgery room, assisting the team in maintaining a safe and sterile environment for the patient.
- Patient Advocacy: Act as the patient’s voice and protector before, during, and after surgery, ensuring all safety protocols are strictly followed.
- Technical Readiness: Prepare surgical tools and materials; advise the team on potential risks to ensure maximum patient safety.
- Meticulous Documentation: Record every aspect of the operation, including personnel, instrumentation, anesthetic levels, and surgical timing within the EMR.
- Liaison & Education: Serve as the vital communication link between the operating team and the family, while directing patient and family education.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN Circulator experience required.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred).
- Licensure: Valid Michigan RN License.
- Certifications: BLS required (ACLS preferred).
- Skills: Exceptional organizational skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to handle complex situations with professional discretion.

GENERAL SUMMARY
The ASC Registered Nurse OR Circulator plans and performs all nursing care for patients undergoing surgery and other invasive procedures. This involves the care from assessment to outcome evaluation, including expert pre-, intra-, and post-operative nursing services. The RN acts as the patient advocate while the patient is under anesthesia and ensures the safety of the patient within the period of the operation. The RN collaborates with other members of the team including the anesthesiologist, surgeon, surgical technologist, surgical assistant, and other personnel.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Manages all the necessary care inside the surgery room, assisting the team in maintaining and creating a comfortable, safe environment for the patient.
- Ensures all surgical team members perform in a unified effort.
- Acts as an advocate for the patient before, during and after surgery.
- Prepares the surgical tools and materials that the surgical team will need during the operation.
- Records every aspect of an operation, including the names and titles of those performing the surgery, the tools used, the amount of anesthetic a patient received and how long the surgery took.
- Advises the surgical team on potential harm to the patient during surgery.
- Assists surgeons during the surgery if needed.
- Serves as a communication liaison to the family and operating team.
- Plans, directs, and/or participates in the education of the patient, family, community and health professionals.
- Performs other position related duties as assigned.
- Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS
- RN license and certification as required by state.
- BLS certification required, ACLS preferred.
