Port Tampa Bay's internship program offers college students a hands-on experience designed to complement their academic and professional goals. As part of our community outreach efforts, the program aims to engage qualified students in areas such as maritime, government, finance, business and trade development, engineering, environmental sciences, and other fields of interest.
Requirements
- Internship duties vary by department. Interns may be assigned to specific pre-determined projects or participate in a job-shadowing format to observe and learn about day-to-day operations within a professional setting.
- Both paid and unpaid internship candidates are required to submit documentation from their educational institution outlining any specific requirements, restrictions, or expectations related to the internship prior to accepting an offer.
- Interns will work during regular business hours, with schedules arranged to accommodate their academic commitments.
- Interns may work up to 24 hours per week. Most internships last approximately 6 weeks, with the possibility of extending up to 11 weeks for more in-depth projects or assignments.
- All internship candidates must successfully pass a background check in order to obtain a Port badge.
- Professional dress is required. Interns are expected to wear business casual attire, except during fieldwork assignments where appropriate casual clothing such as jeans may be permitted.
- Additional responsibilities, projects, or duties may be assigned based on departmental needs and the intern’s academic focus.
