Civil Estimator
Job Type
Full-time
Description

  • Perform detailed digital quantity takeoffs and unit-price estimates for earthwork, utilities, paving, and site concrete as a self-perform subcontractor.
  • Review GC bid docs (plans/specs, addenda, RFIs), project manuals, and geotechnical reports; identify scope gaps, risks, and constructability issues.
  • Draft clear scope letters with inclusions/exclusions, clarifications, and alternates; align with CSI divisions and bid form requirements.
  • Solicit, level, and qualify quotes from suppliers and sub-tiers (e.g., trucking, traffic control, striping, materials) and build competitive buyouts.
  • Develop production-based pricing: crews, equipment spreads, cycle times, haul analysis, and yield/waste factors.
  • Build bid schedules/logic (conceptual through detailed) and coordinate phasing, access, and logistics with operations.
  • Prepare proposal forms, SOVs, and GC portal submissions; support pre-bid/site walks and answer scope questions.
  • Participate in internal reviews and estimate-to-field handoff meetings; provide takeoff maps, assumptions, and risk registers.
  • Maintain historical cost data, benchmarking, and templates; support continuous improvement of estimating tools.
  • Assist with change-order pricing, value engineering, and early budgets for negotiated pursuits
Requirements

  • 3+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil/sitework (self-perform crews); relevant field experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid (or similar), digital takeoff tools (e.g., Bluebeam Revu, On-Screen Takeoff/PlanSwift), and Excel; familiarity with 3D/Civil 3D model-based quantification is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of production-based estimating, unit pricing, labor/equipment costing, and subcontractor scoping.
  • Strong reading of plans/specs, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
