JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting directly to the Director of Claims, the Material Damage Manager is responsible for managing the processes and employees for all aspects pertaining to the material damage operations. This includes estimating, material desk audits, total loss, salvage, vehicle reinspection, and management of direct repair shops. The MD Manager also manages and oversees internal and external vendors that are utilized in the evaluation and settlement of material damage claims, including, but not limited to appraisal estimating software, salvage vendors, independent appraisers, and body shops. Additionally, this position is responsible for managing and controlling costs associated with material damage operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Material Damage):
1. Serve as a resource for the entire company vehicle estimating and vehicle repairs.
2. Responsible for managing a team of material desk auditors, total loss adjusters, and salvage specialists.
3. Be responsible for selecting and managing a staff of material damage specialists. This includes determining the appropriate workload that is in the best interests of the company; performing evaluations and mentoring of your staff; managing and reviewing your team regularly.
4. Ensure ongoing adjudication of claims within company standards and industry best practices and regulations;
5. Develop and implement a network of preferred body shops (direct repair network) and establish procedures to provide appropriate quality control over those shops.
6. Develop and maintain a labor rate survey that is in compliance with California regulations.
7. Develop and maintain a tow and storage survey that can be used by the company to determine reasonable charges vs. unreasonable charges.
8. Responsible for overall work product quality of subordinates;
9. Produce grammatically correct and clearly written correspondence including letters, memos, reports and claim file documentation;
10. Assist in the operations of the claims department, including making recommendations and implementing organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives;
11. Maintain a documented system of claims policies, systems, procedures and workflows to ensure smooth operations;
12. Provide feedback to Management on process and system improvement initiatives for the department;
13. Report to Management as soon there is an awareness of any issues or concerns which may be detrimental to the department or Company; recommend policies and procedures to Management regarding quality issues that may arise;
14. Staff Training-Foster a highly focused training and development environment within your direct reports and also for the Claims Department;
15. Comply with state and federal laws, Department of Insurance regulations, insurance carrier best practices and follow and enforce Aspire Claims Service’s and partner’s policies, procedures and work rules;
16. Responsible for evaluating, selecting, and ensuring quality and cost containment for vendors including independent appraisers, salvage vendors, body shops, or other pertinent vendors
17. Communicate and provide timely notification to the Human Resources Department for all things related to employee attendance, punctuality or possible leave related situations;
18. Regular and predictable punctuality and attendance;
19. Evaluate subordinates’ performance and administer personnel actions as required in coordination with human resources department.
20. Ability to achieve targeted performance goals.
21. Be familiar with insurance company regulations for California, as well as any other states where Aspire conducts business.
22. Interview, and select the best candidates for addition to your staff of material damage specialists. Additionally, you will need to determine the appropriate staffing level for your team based upon the Company’s needs.
23. Provide appropriate and accurate reports for areas within your job responsibility.
24. Ensure compliance with Insurance code regarding vehicle inspections after repairs.
25. Other duties as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
1. 10 plus years’ experience in Property and Casualty insurance industry;
2. Extensive vehicle estimating experience.
3. Must have a clear understanding of insurance industry practices, standards and terminology;
4. Extensive experience handling property damage claims.
5. Must be able to pass a background check;
6. Must have the ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment while managing multiple priorities;
7. Must have a disciplined approach to all job-related activities;
8. Must have a solid foundation of personal organization, sound decision making and analytical skills, strong interpersonal and customer service skills;
9. Must have strong managerial skills;
10. Must have strong keyboard skills as well as proficiency in Windows and MS Office product;
11. Work effectively with other managers and supervisors that may or may not report directly to you.
12. Must have excellent judgment in decision-making.
13. Strong organizational skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. This is an exempt position which complies with alternative work schedule when applicable;
2. This work environment is fast-paced, and accuracy is essential to successful task completion;
3. The office is that of a highly technical company supporting a paperless environment;
4. Travel may be required;
5. Requires extended periods of computer use and sitting.
