Job Summary:
Maintenance has the responsibility for the maintenance of all the buildings and the grounds of our campus. This position is responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and repairing the parish facilities and grounds, ensuring they are orderly and ready for daily use.
This person reports to the pastor and secretary as requested. This position requires no more than 22.5 hours per week.
Ministerial Character
The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of St. Joseph Catholic Church which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed at St. Joseph Catholic Church help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
Essential Job Duties:
· As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St. Joseph Catholic Church in both your professional and personal life.
· Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
· Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.

· Perform routine inspections and maintenance of church facilities.
· Conduct minor repairs on electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other systems.
· Clean and sanitize restrooms, kitchens (including equipment for food preparation and storage), sanctuary, offices, and other areas of all buildings, as needed, including tasks such as mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, washing windows, dusting surfaces, replacing filters and lightbulbs, and maintaining floors. Additionally, wood furniture must be oiled and maintained if requested, and all other maintenance and upkeep tasks
· Maintain church grounds, including trimming bushes and trees, removing snow/ice, mowing lawns, raking, weed-eating, watering, edging, blowing walkways and entrances and similar tasks according to the pastor’s guidelines and request
· Performs minor maintenance and repairs for the parish buildings, including light carpentry, painting, washing and minor repair work as needed.
· Assures the proper collection and disposal of trash, waste, garbage, recycling from all parish facilities.
· Maintains an inventory of supplies for lighting, cleaning, maintaining, and liturgical purposes, and oversees ordering or purchasing and stocking supplies as needed.
· Keeps the pastor regularly informed about completed tasks, pending work, and any problems or issues related to routine maintenance and operations.
· Arranges, works with, and monitors contracted maintenance companies to ensure that services are performed satisfactorily and meet desired quality standards.
· Set up and break down furniture and equipment for church events.
· Ensure all facilities are secure, including locking doors and windows and setting alarms as needed.
· Comply with safety and health regulations.
· Perform any additional training as assigned.
· Perform any other jobs as requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Knowledge of the structure and basic teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
· Ability to lead prayer with others.
· Knowledge of basic repair and maintenance techniques.
· Ability to operate maintenance tools and equipment.
· Good physical condition and ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders and scaffolding.
· Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to maintain work environment neat and orderly.
· Commitment to honoring and maintaining confidentiality and security.
· Ability to provide own transportation for job-related responsibilities as needed.
· Sensitivity to economic and environmental concerns to prevent waste or misuse of resources.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Trainings:
· High School Diploma or GED acceptable to Texas Education Agency.
Experience:
· One (1) year of related full time wage earning experience.
Language:
· English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing)
· Spanish (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing). Preferred but not required.
Catholic Requirement:
· Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
Licenses/Certifications:
· Valid Texas driver’s license.
· Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
Working Conditions:
· All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church.
· The Parish is an at-will employer.
· All buildings and vehicles owned by the Parish are tobacco free.
· Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
· Availability for on-call emergencies.
· Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations.
· Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
· May be required to use personal vehicle to drive to off-site locations.
