Position Overview:
The Merchandise Receiving Specialist (Clothing Associator) is responsible for receiving, verifying, and processing all incoming shipments of clothing merchandise. This role ensures that all products are accurately accounted for, inspected for quality, and meet company standards before being distributed to the appropriate departments. The Merchandise Receiving Specialist works closely with the Buying Department to address and resolve any discrepancies in shipments and supports overall inventory accuracy and workflow efficiency.
In addition to receiving duties, the Merchandise Receiving Specialist operates a Dekken folding machine to properly fold garments according to company presentation and packaging standards. Responsibilities include feeding garments into the machine with correct placement and alignment, adjusting machine settings as needed, monitoring fold quality, performing test runs, and conducting routine cleaning and basic maintenance. The specialist ensures garments are folded neatly, consistently, and efficiently to support inventory storage, distribution, and overall product presentation.
Additional responsibilities include organizing and labeling merchandise; ensuring garments are properly inserted into poly bags and sealed according to company standards; applying accurate labels and SKU information; maintaining production counts; keeping the receiving and folding areas clean and organized; following safety procedures; and supporting overall warehouse and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive all incoming clothing shipments and verify against invoices and packing slips.
- Check shipment accuracy including quantity, sizes, colors, and styles.
- Inspect merchandise for quality, damage, or defects and report findings promptly.
- Document and communicate any shipment discrepancies to the Buying Department.
- Collaborate with the Buying Department to resolve vendor-related issues.
- Accurately record data in inventory management systems.
- Maintain an organized and clean workstation and receiving area.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures regarding inventory control.
- Move product along conveyor lines to ensure a steady and consistent flow to the folding team.
- Set up, operate, and monitor Dekken folding machines to ensure accurate and efficient production.
- Read and interpret work orders, production schedules, and folding specifications.
- Feed garments into the folding machine properly, ensuring correct placement, alignment, and smooth operation.
- Inspecting finished folds for quality and consistency

- Assist with vendor returns, damaged goods processing, and documentation.
- Assist in preparing merchandise for stocking or further processing.
- Follow safety procedures for lifting, moving, and storing merchandise.
- Provide occasional cross-support to the folding department or other operational

- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or related coursework preferred.
- Previous experience in retail, inventory control, or logistics is strongly preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
- Ability to lift, move, and handle boxes of clothing shipments as needed.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift boxes (up to 60 lbs) for extended periods.
- Must be able to visually inspect merchandise for accuracy and quality.
- must be able to manage Dekken folding machine with care.
- Ability to safely move pallets of merchandise using an electric or manual pallet jack.
- Ability to work around conveyor systems and remain attentive to merchandise flow.
- Ability to work in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures and moderate noise levels
- Ability to meet production pace requirements while maintaining accuracy and safety standards.
