About the Role


Local Roots is committed to keeping Pittsburgh’s properties safe through the winter months. We are hiring Seasonal Snow Laborers for December–February to support our snow operations across our commercial and residential properties. We are hiring Snow Laborers for the upcoming snow season (December–February) to join our Snow Fighters on an as-needed, weather-dependent basis.


This role is perfect for individuals who want high paying winter work, enjoy physical labor outdoors, and want the opportunity for full-time landscaping employment starting in the spring. Ability to drive commercial trucks is a plus, but not required.

Requirements

 

What You’ll Do


As a Snow Laborer, you will work with 1–2 team members to keep commercial and residential sites safe during winter storms. Responsibilities include:

  • Plowing and Shoveling Parking Lots
  • Shoveling and clearing sidewalks, walkways, steps, and pedestrian areas
  • Applying salt, ice melt, and deicing materials
  • Assisting with snow blowers and small machinery
  • Supporting parking lot clearing operations
  • Helping plow and salt truck crews as needed
  • Following assigned routes with attention to detail and urgency
  • Maintaining safety for yourself, the team, and the public

Hours will vary based on weather conditions, which may include early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • Must be able to reach the shop in North Versailles within 30 minutes of being called in
  • Reliable transportation is required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs or more
  • Ability to work outdoors in all winter conditions (snow, ice, wind, cold)
  • Ability to respond quickly and reliably to call-outs
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills
  • Team-oriented attitude with respect for others
  • Ability to drive a commercial truck is a plus, but not required

Must show up on time and ready to work — reliability is critical in this role

 

Compensation

  • $25–$30/hr depending on experience
  • +$5/hr bonus during snow events when performance metrics are met (explained during onboarding)
  • Opportunity for full-time employment in Landscaping Maintenance or Install starting in the spring

Physical Demands

This job requires:

  • Frequent lifting, bending, kneeling, and walking
  • Working outdoors for extended periods in severe weather
  • Operating small equipment when needed
     
Salary Description
$25–$30/hr + $5/hr Event Bonus (Performance-Based)
