Position Summary
VPFW is hiring for a PRN Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to work as needed with our amazing sonography team on an as-needed basis. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for delivering high-quality ultrasound imaging and patient care in a fast-paced OBGYN practice. This position performs a wide range of obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound examinations, ensures accurate and thorough documentation, and collaborates closely with providers to support timely clinical decision-making. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical proficiency, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to work independently while maintaining compassionate, patient-centered care.
- This is a PRN, as needed position.
- Must be available 2 to 3 weekdays for training during initial training period.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures on patients as directed.
- Record findings and forward images to the reading physician in a timely manner.
- Obtain and document all pertinent clinical information relating to the procedure.
- Review patient charts to confirm medical history and ensure readiness for imaging.
- Complete all required written and electronic documentation, forms, and medical record updates promptly and accurately.
- Maintain adequate ultrasound supplies, follow cleaning protocols, and ensure equipment is properly cared for.
- Demonstrated knowledge of ultrasound theory, techniques, equipment operation, and ALARA radiation safety principles.
- Strong working knowledge of ultrasound physics and instrumentation as it applies to image optimization.
- Ability to work independently, set priorities, and manage responsibilities with minimal supervision.
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills, including the ability to seek guidance when handling unfamiliar situations.
- Ability to produce accurate, high-quality work in an environment of full schedules.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of independent OBGYN sonography experience with proficiency in GYN and all OB trimester scans.
- ARDMS OBGYN registered required.
- BLS certification required.
- NT credential preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires prolonged standing and walking, frequent bending and reaching.
- Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs.
- Adequate eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and visual, auditory, and communication skills.
