Job Overview:
States United Democracy Center is seeking a Senior Manager of Development to support the implementation of our fundraising strategy around donations and grant funding. The Senior Manager will focus on foundations, work closely with the Director of Development to share a portfolio of major donors, and grow a mid-level funder program. The Senior Manager will spend half of their time on foundations/grant writing and half of their time on major donors/campaigns. The Senior Manager will play a key role in a small but mighty Development team that is tasked with fundraising for a critical mission. We are seeking a team player who is organized, proactive, and has strong communications skills for this multi-faceted role.
Responsibilities:
Major donor and campaign support—50%
- Partner with the Director of Development to track and execute stewardship plans for major donors, who have the potential to give large-scale gifts.
- Serve as a relationship manager for a number of major donors.
- Prepare materials that highlight and tell the story of the organization, its mission, and impact for donors.
- Maintain and manage the organization’s donor database, including data pulling and maintaining your own data and prospective funder lists.
- Identify prospective donors, as well as opportunities for increases from existing donors.
- Support annual giving and stewardship efforts, including project management of tasks and deliverables.
- Utilize creative talents and resources to develop and improve existing workflows and protocols.
- Help coordinate and support fundraising and stewardship activities, communications, and donor-centered programming.
Foundations and grant writing—50%
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of foundations.
- Work with an internal team to understand and translate organizational activities to donors in grant materials including grant proposals, updates, and reports.
- Write and submit grant proposals to foundations that demonstrate a compelling need for financial support.;
- Manage foundation funding prospects:
- Research potential foundation opportunities.
- Manage and oversee the grants calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, gift acknowledgments, reports, and other stewardship activities.
- Maintain up-to-date records of grant applications.
- Collaborate effectively with the internal team on gathering needed information and stories for grant proposals, reporting, and renewals. This includes identifying areas of need, opportunities for grant expansion, and gathering data and metrics necessary for materials development.

Minimum Requirements:
- Perform all duties in accordance with States United’s values of integrity, inclusion, collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
- 6+ years of development experience with 2+ years in nonprofit fundraising and direct funder management.
- Highly articulate with exceptional interpersonal, writing, and editing skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the fundraising process: cultivation, stewardship, the ask, and reporting.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proven successful project management skills.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate successfully with individuals and teams at all levels.
- Display a positive attitude, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, and good listening skills.?

- Professional proficiency in Office365, video conferencing software, and CRM databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on issues of election protection, voting rights, and/or democracy protection strongly preferred.
