Billing Specialist Remote Position - Must Reside in CT, NY, NJ, or MA


About the Position:


The Billing Specialist is responsible for verifying insurance benefits, ensuring accurate billing and claim submission, providing excellent customer service to patients and payers, and performing consistent follow-up on claims to support timely reimbursement. This role plays a key part in revenue cycle operations while maintaining compliance and high service standards.  


Schedule:


Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM


Your Role:

  • Verification of Benefits (VOB)
    Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to services rendered
    Confirm coverage details including copays, deductibles, coinsurance, authorizations, and limitations
    Document verified benefits accurately in the system
    Communicate benefit details and financial responsibility to internal teams as needed
    Identify coverage issues and escalate discrepancies promptly
  • Billing & Invoicing
    Generate accurate patient statements and invoices in a timely manner
    Review charges for accuracy prior to billing
  • Customer Service & Communication
    Handle inbound and outbound calls with clients, payers, insurance companies, and internal staff
    Provide clear explanations regarding charges, statements, invoices, and insurance coverage
    Address patient billing inquiries and resolve concerns professionally and compassionately
    Maintain excellent customer service standards while managing sensitive financial information
  • Claims Submission & Follow-Up
    Research claim status using payer portals, phone calls, and correspondence

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance terminology, and billing procedures in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of billing regulations and compliance requirements preferred

Compensation:


The base rate of pay for this position is $22.00 to $24.00 per hour. Actual pay is determined based on a number of job-related factors including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, performance, and working conditions.
