Description

Job Summary: 

The Barcode Mail Sweeper I is responsible for performing manual sorting, bundling and manipulation of various classes of mailing products through an automated process.


Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Manual handling and inspection of printed material to ensure mail is sorted by grouping.
  • Ensure sort bins are emptied quickly and accurately to avoid mail jams. Watch for blockage or stoppage of mail processing.
  • Certify that sorted mail is labeled and stacked correctly in trays and all mail pieces are facing the label direction on bin. 
  • Observe for any folded or bent mail pieces. Review mail not properly sorted or rejected.
  • Quality control includes ensuring that sorted mail is accurately tagged according to the proper destination.
  • Ensure work area is free of hazards and clean of debris.
  • Follows all required safety procedures and communicates all concerns regarding safety to the department manager. 
  • Complete production time keeping records (Data Collection) via Pace inclusive of logging time against the proper activity codes, quantity produced, and materials where applicable. 
  • Work with other departments to ensure job schedules are maintained and customer expectations are exceeded. 
  • General warehouse and other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prior warehouse type setting experience a plus
  • Experience in mail processing is a plus.

  • Pieces of mail handled.
  • Percent of internal mail delivered on time.
  • Percent of incoming USPS mail delivered on time.
  • Percent of accountable mail delivered on time.
  • Percent of internal and USPS mail sorted correctly.
  • Cost per piece per class.
  • Work-sharing savings.
  • Percent of metered postage and stamps that are spoiled.
  • The percentage of outgoing mail that is moved to USPS the same day it is received in the mail center.
  • The percentage of outgoing mail that is returned as undeliverable as addressed.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Lifting requirements of 35 lbs.
  • Prolonged periods of standing at workstation.
  • Extended periods of focused reading of mail pieces and labels.
  • Must be able to continuously stand, walk, reach, extend, bend, stoop, and squat throughout the shift.
  • Will be exposed to a loud noise environment.
  • May be exposed to dust.
  • Extended work shifts may be required due to business needs and the flexibility to work overtime and weekends are required.
