Founded in 1866, The Floating Hospital, is one of the last remaining charity hospitals in New York City. Our commitment is the same as it was 159 years ago: unrestricted healthcare to all who walk through our doors, regardless of identity, insurance status, or
the ability to pay. We welcome individuals of all ages, from infants, school-age children (5+), youth and adults. The Floating Hospital is a Federally Qualified Health Center and the largest provider to homeless families living in family shelters and domestic violence safe houses throughout all five boroughs.
Main Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Director of Clinic Operations, the Custodian/Porter will be responsible for the functions below:
I. Housekeeping:
- Maintaining cleanliness in all departments, including offices and public areas.
- Maintaining all walkways, clearing debris, cartons, boxes, and other unlawful obstructions.
- Sweeping and mopping of the clinics daily.
- Disposing of trash daily.
- Stripping and waxing the floors as necessary.
- Delivering supplies as needed to staff.
- Responding to staff pages for housekeeping needs.
- Helping to maintain an accurate inventory of all supplies.
- Must assist in maintaining TFH satellite clinics on a regular basis.
- Assisting with snow and ice removal as needed.
- Stocking supplies in various stockrooms.
- Dusting and cleaning in high and low areas.
- Must be able to lift 30-50 pounds.
- Any other duties as assigned.
II. Clerical Office Skills
- When required the custodian/porter will be responsible for basic clerical skills such as: data entry, answering calls, sorting, and filing documents.
- Purchasing experience a plus
- Highschool diploma or GED.
- Ability to work well with a team of custodians and porters.
- Fluency in English.
- COVID Booster and Flu Vaccine required.
