Description

POSITION SUMMARY

 

Prepares made-to-order deli sandwiches and provides friendly, efficient service at the deli slicing counter. Ensures high standards of food quality, freshness, sanitation, and customer service while supporting daily deli operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare made-to-order sandwiches and deli items according to established recipes, portioning, and food safety standards.
     
  • Operate deli slicing equipment safely and accurately to fulfill customer requests.
     
  • Greet customers promptly and assist with sandwich selections, meats, cheeses, and deli products.
     
  • Advise customers on product quality, portion sizes, storage, and preparation methods.
     
  • Stock, rotate, and maintain sandwich bar ingredients to ensure freshness and availability.
     
  • Set up, stock, face, and maintain deli displays, cases, and coolers.
     
  • Bag, wrap, label, and package customer orders and special requests.
     
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the sandwich bar, slicing counter, prep areas, shelves, and equipment.
     
  • Monitor product quality, remove outdated or unsellable items, and obtain credit for product when applicable.
     
  • Stamp, mark, or tag merchandise with accurate pricing as needed.
     
  • Review and maintain deli pricing structure and signage.
     
  • Follow all Island Market procedures, food safety guidelines, and safety standards.
     
  • Perform any and all other assigned tasks.

Job Qualifications / Required Skills / Key Competencies

  • Experience in a deli, food service, or customer-facing environment preferred
     
  • Ability to operate deli slicers safely (training provided if needed)
     
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
     
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
     
  • Attention to detail, cleanliness, and food safety
     
  • Ability to calculate discounts and percentages
     
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
     
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
     
  • Good analytical and organizational skills
     
  • Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written)
     

Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to cold and hot temperatures, food odors, moisture, and noise
     
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift objects up to 50 lbs
     
  • Work performed at sandwich prep stations, slicing counters, and refrigerated cases
