POSITION SUMMARY

Provides friendly, accurate, and efficient customer service at the checkout stand. The Cashier is responsible for processing customer transactions, handling payments, and supporting a positive shopping experience while following all Island Market policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Greet customers promptly and provide courteous, professional service at all times.
   
• Accurately scan, ring, and process customer purchases using point-of-sale (POS) systems.
   
• Handle cash, checks, credit/debit cards, EBT, and other approved payment methods with accuracy.
   
• Maintain accurate cash drawer balances and follow cash-handling procedures.
   
• Bag groceries carefully and efficiently, following product handling guidelines.
   
• Assist customers with questions regarding pricing, products, promotions, and store policies.
   
• Verify customer identification for age-restricted purchases when required.
   
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe checkout area.
   
• Monitor pricing accuracy and report discrepancies to supervision.
   
• Follow loss prevention and safety procedures.
   
• Abide by all Island Market procedures and safety standards.
   
• Perform any and all other assigned tasks.

• Previous cashier or customer service experience preferred but not required

Work Environment

• Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods
   
• Regularly required to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs
   
• Exposed to noise, customer traffic, and frequent interaction with the public
