HR Generalist

At Buffalo Construction, Inc., we’re looking for an experienced and detail-oriented HR Generalist to join our People Team. This is a hands-on role supporting the full teammate lifecycle—with an emphasis on payroll, onboarding, benefits, and compliance, while contributing to a positive, values-driven culture.


Role Summary

The HR Generalist provides day-to-day HR support and ensures compliance with employment laws and internal processes. This role is a critical link between teammates, leadership, and People Team operations. The ideal candidate is highly organized, systems-savvy, and passionate about delivering an exceptional teammate experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state employment laws and ensure policy compliance
  • Identify areas of risk and escalate appropriately with recommendations
  • Process full-cycle payroll in Paylocity, including reviewing reports, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring timely submission
  • Prepare and send offer letters and onboarding materials
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of new hire paperwork (I-9, W-4, direct deposit, etc.)
  • Coordinate with IT and Facilities for desk setup and system access
  • Support teammates with benefit elections, qualifying events, and questions
  • Assist with open enrollment and benefit-related terminations
  • Administer and track FMLA, STD, LTD, and ADA accommodations
  • Conduct confidential investigations and support performance management conversations
  • Roll out HR policies, support audits, and participate in process improvement projects
  • Coordinate fleet vehicle assignments and maintain usage documentation and compliance
  • Provide front desk coverage as needed (phones, visitors, mail, etc.)


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • 2-4 years of progressive HR experience required
  • Experience in payroll processing and benefits administration required
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred
  • Prior experience in Paylocity or similar HRIS/Payroll systems strongly preferred


Skills & Strengths

  • Strong understanding of federal and state employment laws (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, etc.)
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS platforms
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
