Job Summary

The Valve and Actuation Specialist is a highly technical engineering role responsible for the design, selection, and application of valve and actuation systems. This role focuses on engineering support, technical expertise, and education to ensure that ECI delivers best-in-class solutions.

The specialist partners closely with inside and outside sales teams, providing guidance on sizing, selection, troubleshooting, and industry best practices while ensuring solutions meet application requirements. A critical part of this role is educating and mentoring the inside sales team to enhance their technical capabilities and customer support effectiveness.

Key Result Areas (KRAs)

KRA #1: Technical Expertise and Engineering Support – 30%

(Ensuring accurate sizing, selection, and application of valve and actuation technologies)

Valve and Actuation Design & Selection

  • Serve as ECI’s subject matter expert on valve and actuation technologies
  • Utilize and train others on manufacturer sizing and selection tools
  • Conduct engineering reviews to identify performance, safety, or reliability issues

Technical Documentation & Compliance

  • Provide CAD drawings, wiring diagrams, shutoff calculations, CMTRs, and material verifications
  • Ensure designs meet industry standards and regulatory requirements

Problem Solving & Support

  • Assist the sales team with technical inquiries, troubleshooting, and recommendations
  • Evaluate customer application requirements and recommend optimal solutions

KRA #2: Education and Technical Training – 25%

(Building technical knowledge within ECI’s sales team to enhance customer support and expertise)

Training and Knowledge Sharing

  • Develop and lead training programs for inside sales and customer support teams
  • Create technical guides, white papers, and FAQs
  • Conduct lunch-and-learns, webinars, and hands-on training

Technical Mentorship

  • Mentor inside sales engineers on complex applications and best practices
  • Collaborate with sales leadership to identify knowledge gaps and tailor training

KRA #3: Application Development and Custom Solutions – 15%

(Designing and improving custom valve and actuation solutions to meet unique customer needs)

Custom Engineering Solutions

  • Design and develop custom valve and actuation solutions
  • Identify recurring customer challenges and create standardized solutions

Innovation & Technology Exploration

  • Research and evaluate new valve and actuation technologies
  • Support outside sales with technical discussions and site visits

KRA #4: Innovation and Continuous Improvement – 10%

(Developing internal tools, processes, and best practices to enhance technical efficiency and accuracy)

Engineering Tools & Process Improvement

  • Develop internal tools, calculators, and best practices
  • Identify and resolve recurring technical issues through standardized solutions
  • Continuously update ECI’s technical resources and guidelines

Post-Installation Evaluation & Lessons Learned

  • Conduct post-installation performance evaluations
  • Integrate real-world findings into future design recommendations

KRA #5: Other Duties as Assigned – 10%

  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support business goals

Requirements
  • At least one to three years of hands-on experience in inside sales 
  • Familiarity with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of product lines; particularly Masoneilan and Rexa
  • Experience with ERP’s, CRM’s or related systems such as sales software packages.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project. 
  • Highly driven and competitive to work in a fast-paced, Metrics-driven and performance-based environment
  • Ability to learn ECI products and services; mechanical aptitude or technical aptitude a plus
  • Organized/time management
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal; ability to present convincingly at a respectable level

Educational/Professional Certification: 

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree or equivalent and two to five years of relative experience

  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.
