Description
Sentry Foods on 92nd & Lisbon is seeking an experienced Deli / Bakery Manager to lead department operations, staff, and financial performance. This is a full-time management position intended for candidates with prior management or supervisory experience in food service or retail.
Position Overview
The Deli / Bakery Manager is responsible for all aspects of deli and bakery operations, including staffing, inventory control, food safety, pricing, and execution of weekly ads. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong organizational skills and the ability to manage people, product, and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise deli and bakery staff; provide training, scheduling, and accountability
- Oversee daily operations including production, merchandising, and sanitation
- Ensure all weekly ad items are carried, produced correctly, and priced accurately
- Manage inventory control, ordering accuracy, and shrink reduction
- Work with multiple vendors to secure competitive costs and reliable supply
- Use vendor systems (including UNFI) to review order guides, invoices, and dated order reports
- Price items accurately off invoice to maintain gross profit targets
- Enforce food safety, sanitation, and HACCP standards at all times
- Maintain and troubleshoot department equipment, including scales and pricing systems
- Communicate effectively with store leadership to meet sales, labor, and margin goals
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Previous management or supervisory experience is required
(Deli, bakery, food service, or grocery retail preferred)
- Proven ability to manage employees, schedules, and daily operations
- Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation standards
- Comfortable using technology (ordering systems, scales, pricing systems)
- Reliable, organized, and capable of leading by example
Preferred Qualifications
- HACCP / Food Safety Manager Certification
- Experience with vendor ordering systems (such as UNFI)
- Retail grocery deli or bakery management experience
Schedule
- Full-time
- Weekends and holidays required based on department needs
Compensation
- $18–$22 per hour, based on experience
- Weekly pay
- Paid holidays after one year of employment
- Paid vacation after one year of employment
