Branch Sales Specialist
Description

 This hybrid role blends inside sales order processing and customer support with outside sales prospecting and account development. The Hybrid Inside/Outside Sales Representative will spend part of their week in the branch handling quotes, orders, and customer needs—and part of their week in the field building relationships, identifying opportunities, and driving profitable growth within an assigned territory and/or account list. 


 Key ResponsibilitiesInside Sales / Branch-Based (Order & Account Support)

  • Respond to customer inquiries at the counter, by phone, and by email.
  • Process customer orders: confirm stock availability, shipping dates, pricing, and order requirements to customer specifications.
  • Provide solutions and recommend appropriate products and value-added services based on customer needs.
  • Apply mechanical principles and product knowledge to address customer applications and challenges.
  • Coordinate closely with branch teams and outside sales reps to grow existing business and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Proactively follow up on quotes and perform outreach to dormant or underdeveloped accounts.

Outside Sales / Field-Based (Growth & Business Development)

  • Increase sales and gross profit by expanding business with existing customers and developing new customers within an assigned territory and/or account list.
  • Create and execute a territory/account plan with measurable goals; revise strategies as needed throughout the year.
  • Maximize sales calls and opportunity creation through consistent prospecting, on-site visits, and relationship building.
  • Use BSC’s CRM to track sales activity, customer meetings, pipeline opportunities, and follow-ups.
  • Collaborate with leadership on pricing/gross margin and terms to maximize transaction profitability.
  • Partner with Accounting as needed to resolve customer credit-related issues.
  • Build productive working relationships with vendor reps; conduct joint calls and coordinate support when needed.
  • Stay current on products and industry trends through meetings, trainings, trade shows, and relevant reading—and apply knowledge to customer solutions.
Requirements

 General / Team Expectations

  • Communicate frequently with branch teams regarding activity and customer needs (leads, quotes, returns, pricing, competition, concerns).
  • Maintain professionalism, integrity, and a customer-first mindset in all customer and vendor interactions.
  • Submit required reports and complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 2–5+ years of sales experience in industrial distribution or an allied industry strongly preferred; power transmission/automation product experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated success meeting sales goals and growing accounts/territory performance.
  • Strong customer service, communication (verbal/written), and negotiation skills.
  • Mechanical and mathematical aptitude; ability to apply product knowledge to solve customer applications.
  • Strong time management, multitasking, and comfort in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with distribution software (Epicor Prophet 21 or similar) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Associate’s degree or higher preferred (Industrial Distribution/Business/Engineering/Marketing).

Travel RequirementYes — primarily local travel within the assigned territory; occasional overnight travel may be required based on customer/vendor needs. (Expected travel level will vary based on territory and branch coverage.) 

Salary Description
$60,000-80,000
