Job Summary
The Lifeguard ensures the safety of the Club’s pool patrons and assists with aquatic programs and pool operations. This role performs work safely in accordance with departmental safety procedures by operating equipment safely and reports any unsafe work conditions or practices to Director of Aquatics or Pool Manager.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Supervises and observes swimmers to ensure their safety by enforcing rules, including enforcing no running or roughhousing in the pool area.
- Administers first-aid care to swimmers’ minor injuries, such as small cuts and bruises.
- Maintains amenities and cleanliness in changing areas, bathrooms, and showers.
- Checks daily first aid supplies and reports needed items.
- Maintains all necessary records determined by the Director of Aquatics or Swimming Pool Manager.
- Checks all pool safety equipment and reports any issues to the Director of Aquatics or Swimming Pool Manager.
- Performs required pool pre-opening duties, such as opening umbrellas, ensuring pool furniture is presentable for guests, and emptying automatic skimmer that skims bugs and other debris from surface to prepare pool for daily use.
- Performs closing duties at end of day, including, straightening the furniture on the pool deck and cabana areas, closing the umbrellas, picking up trash along the surrounding areas inside and outside the pool fence, and washing pool decks and furniture down.
- Places rescue tube and ring buoy on the lifeguard chair in the morning; returns these and all swimming aids and pool toys to the lifeguard office when the pool closes.
- Informs Director of Aquatics or Swimming Pool Manager about unresolved member or guest disruptions that could cause a safety problem.
- Attends all meetings as directed by their supervisors.

Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must have knowledge of water rescue methods, lifeguarding, first-aid practices, and techniques and possess the ability and skill to carry out water rescues.
- Knowledge of swimming pool operations to include sanitation, maintenance, and safety.
- Must have a service attitude to interact with pool patrons courteously and firmly.
- Must be available to work flexible shift and for emergency and scheduled work requirements on evenings, weekends, or holidays.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess a valid American Red Cross lifeguarding certificate and American Red Cross first aid certificate.
- Must be certified in American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), for the Professional Rescuer or become certified within 30 days of employment.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, push or pull up to 30 lbs., with or without accommodation.
- Requires long periods of sitting, standing, frequent bending in the sun and water contact.
