Senior Counsel

JOB SUMMARY:  

The Senior Counsel provides strategic legal advice, manages complex legal matters, and ensures compliance with laws and regulations. assists with contract negotiation, compliance, regulatory issues, rate cases, and strategic legal support. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides strategic legal advice to the management team and the board on corporate transactions, business operations, and regulatory compliance.  
  • Reviews, drafts, and negotiates agreements, contracts, partnership deals, and regulatory filings and responses. Ensures all contractual documents are legally sound and aligned with the company’s interests. 
  • Provides legal advice on corporate governance, compliance, and regulatory issues.
  • Monitors and interprets changes in relevant laws and regulations.
  • Identify potential legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Collaborates with Finance, Operations, Energy Supply, and other departments to develop policies, manage risk, and ensure effective legal support for business operations.
  • Completes other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Solid understanding of corporate and commercial law.
  • Strong negotiation and drafting skills, excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with a collaborative mindset.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school.
  • Active license to practice law.
  • 4–7 years of relevant experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal role.
  • In-house experience at a utility company.

Salary Description
$140,000 - $220,000 annual
