The Opportunity Michigan Institute of Urology is seeking a compassionate and organized Patient Navigator to focus on supporting patients diagnosed with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). As BPH is a common non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate, your role is vital in helping patients navigate their symptoms and treatment options to improve their quality of life.

The Impact You Will Make
- BPH Advocacy & Education: Act as the primary resource for patients, explaining that the condition is non-cancerous and detailing various surgical and non-surgical treatment paths.
- Barrier Removal: Coordinate specialized testing and follow-up appointments to ensure treatment plans stay on schedule and patients receive timely care.
- Clinical Documentation: Use the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system to track patient progress and ensure all diagnostic results and metrics are available for the clinical team.
- Resource Coordination: Provide patients with educational materials and support to manage symptoms effectively throughout their healthcare journey.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Previous experience in patient advocacy, medical office administration, or urology is preferred.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of urological medical terminology and proficiency in EMR systems.
- Core Traits: Exceptional customer service skills, ability to work independently, and a strict commitment to HIPAA confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Documents patient care services by charting in the patient’s electronic medical record. Updates information when changes have occurred, or new information is available.
- Guides patients and families through their healthcare experience, answers questions, provides education, helps them to understand their diagnosis and treatment options.
- Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing team strategies.
- Tracks and documents metrics and outcomes.
- Identifies support groups appropriate for patients and families and coordinates scheduling of appointments.
- Provides age and culturally appropriate information and resources during the diagnostic evaluation.
- Removes obstacles to treatment by scheduling appointments, coordinating referrals, arranging transportation, translation, and other needed services.
- Help patients navigate insurance claims and works to create payment plans when necessary.
- Ensure that patients are fully informed about their legal rights.
- Performs other position related duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS

KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES
- Knowledge of medical terminology and coding.
- Display exceptional customer service skills.
- Basic computer knowledge that includes Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR.
- Must communicate clearly and effectively in both a written and verbal format.
- Knowledge of patient confidentiality, state laws, HIPAA regulations, and medical records procedures.
- Ability to work independently and communicate appropriately with leader and teammates.
- Understands and is sensitive to patient and family experiences.
- Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
At least one year of experience in a medical office setting.
Minimum of two years experience in customer service relations.
