Michigan Institute of Urology is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to join our team as a Patient Navigator supporting patients diagnosed with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). This full-time role is perfect for someone passionate about patient advocacy and helping men navigate their treatment journey with confidence.
Position Details:
- Full-Time, Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Pay based on experience
- No nights, weekends, or on-call

Key Responsibilities:
- Guide patients and families through their healthcare experience, answering questions and providing education on diagnosis and treatment options
- Document patient care services and updates in the EMR system
- Coordinate appointments, referrals, and support services to remove barriers to care
- Track patient metrics and outcomes
- Assist patients with insurance claims and payment plans as needed
- Identify appropriate support groups and resources
- Ensure patients are fully informed of their legal rights
- Perform other duties as assigned to support a seamless patient care experience
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Medical Assistant Certificate of Completion, or currently Certified or Registered MA required
- Experience in patient advocacy, medical office administration, or urology preferred
- Knowledge of urological medical terminology and EMR systems
- Exceptional customer service skills, ability to work independently, and strict HIPAA compliance

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Documents patient care services by charting in the patient’s electronic medical record. Updates information when changes have occurred, or new information is available.
- Guides patients and families through their healthcare experience, answers questions, provides education, helps them to understand their diagnosis and treatment options.
- Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing team strategies.
- Tracks and documents metrics and outcomes.
- Identifies support groups appropriate for patients and families and coordinates scheduling of appointments.
- Provides age and culturally appropriate information and resources during the diagnostic evaluation.
- Removes obstacles to treatment by scheduling appointments, coordinating referrals, arranging transportation, translation, and other needed services.
- Help patients navigate insurance claims and works to create payment plans when necessary.
- Ensure that patients are fully informed about their legal rights.
- Performs other position related duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS

KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES
- Knowledge of medical terminology and coding.
- Display exceptional customer service skills.
- Basic computer knowledge that includes Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR.
- Must communicate clearly and effectively in both a written and verbal format.
- Knowledge of patient confidentiality, state laws, HIPAA regulations, and medical records procedures.
- Ability to work independently and communicate appropriately with leader and teammates.
- Understands and is sensitive to patient and family experiences.
- Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
At least one year of experience in a medical office setting.
Minimum of two years experience in customer service relations.
