South Ottumwa Savings Bank has openings for Customer Service Representatives to provide coverage at our Church Street and North Court locations in Ottumwa, Iowa.
POSITION SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
Responsible for accurate and courteous handling of customer transactions, including but not limited to deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, funds transfers, check cashing, processing change orders and night deposits; refers customers and prospective customers to other departments for additional products and services; balances cash drawer; loads ATM's; ensures that applicable regulations and procedures are complied with in the process of transacting business; strives to always provide helpful, efficient, professional, and friendly service.
This is a full time non-exempt from overtime position with a flexible schedule Monday through Friday and some Saturday mornings. This position is scheduled approximately 40 hours per week. Reliable attendance and punctuality required.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Process customer transactions accurately for both consumer and business customers: including cashing checks, deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, credit card cash advances, and assembling business change orders.
- Maintain a friendly and professional attitude when dealing with customers while promoting the establishment of customer relationships. Assist with questions regarding their accounts and banking procedures. Help find solutions to their needs or concerns.
- Use Teller Capture Scanning, which includes scanning, balancing, research, and daily maintenance of teller scanners.
- Buy, sell, and verify cash.
- Assist customers with purchasing cashier’s checks while following bank procedures.
- Assist customers with stop payments, raising debit card limits, ordering checks, and selling gift, travel, and reloadable cards.
- Maintain a current knowledge of Bank products, promoting those products to new and existing customers, and know where to direct customers for further assistance.
- Complete online training and attend seminars as required concerning Bank, State and Federal regulations regarding up-to-date banking policies.
- Verifies customers’ identity and validity of account relationships when conducting transactions. Monitors for OFAC hits, completes currency transaction report, suspicious activity report and inputs information in the $3,000.00 log when needed.
- Balance cash drawers and maintain cash levels within Bank guidelines. Also responsible for the balancing of the credit card cash advance machine.
- Assist other departments with tasks or branch coverage as needed.
- Willingly represent the Bank in various community activities and volunteer opportunities.
- Know and comply with all Bank policies and procedures pertaining to you and your position.
- Familiarity with all Bank products and services is a must and using Bank products and services is highly encouraged. Actively seek out additional information and further education on Bank products, services, policies, procedures, regulations, and technology to increase efficiency and provide a high level of customer service.
- All other duties as assigned by management are accepted willingly and performed within established timeframes.
This is a full time, hourly, non-exempt from overtime, daytime position, approximately 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday and some regularly scheduled Saturday mornings (approx. 2 per month).

SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Previous cash handling, customer service, and banking experience is a plus.
Positive attitude; excellent customer service skills; good oral and written communication skills with customers and coworkers; detail oriented; perform tasks in an organized manner; basic computer and 10-key skills; strong math skills; able to read cursive writing; knowledge of the Banking System helpful. Reliable attendance with ability to work Saturday mornings and a high level of flexibility pertaining to the schedule of work hours and duties. Bi-lingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
MEETINGS:

While performing duties the Customer Service Representative is regularly required to stand, use hands and fingers, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Current driver's license with ability to cover at multiple locations required.
BACKGROUND SCREENING:
Must be able to pass a background screening including a credit and criminal check.
