Job Overview:
The Lower School Music Teacher will be responsible for teaching music classes twice a week to students in Pre-K through 4th grade. With a deep understanding of and passion for teaching elementary age students, this teacher will be able to transfer their enthusiasm for music to our youngest learners using multiple modalities and authentic applications. The teacher will utilize differentiation and performance-based assessment to ensure every child finds their voice. The teacher will direct the Lower School Choir in weekly chapel services and partner with the Middle School music department to alternate leadership for all-school chapel gatherings. Beyond the classroom, the music teacher will orchestrate annual grade-level music productions for each grade level and curate performances for various school-wide events. The teacher will collaborate closely with a community of dedicated, compassionate, and energetic adults, faculty and parents alike, to build a joyful, inclusive, and respectful learning community.

Compensation: $78,836 to $124,774 annually

Student Relationships

- Plan and facilitate challenging, age-appropriate teaching and learning opportunities—aligned with the California Arts Standards for Music—that inspire enthusiasm, confidence, and a deep understanding and appreciation for music.
- Create learning experiences that incorporate a range of instruction modalities to meet the Artistic Processes of creating, performing, responding, and connecting.
- Assess understanding using a variety of formative assessments based on state standards and utilize assessment feedback to adjust instruction and continuously improve student learning.
- Use technology creatively and effectively for music instruction to enhance student engagement and technical proficiency.
- Collaborate with Student Services faculty to implement accommodations and meet the learning needs of diverse cognitive learners, ensuring equitable access to the music curriculum.
Community
- Active collaboration with Middle School music department faculty, as well as Lower School homeroom and specialist teachers to develop curriculum, interdisciplinary learning opportunities, and special projects.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding curriculum, student progress, and course placements.
- Be a positive and contributing member of the school community.
- Supervise students in other roles such as recess, lunch, field trips, etc.
- Participate actively in department, grade-level team, division, and faculty meetings as scheduled.
- Collaborate with departmental colleagues on the ordering of instructional materials, curriculum development, etc.
- Actively pursue student-centered professional learning opportunities aligned with school goals and initiatives.
Additionally
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences
- Attend school chapel, committees, meetings, and other internal school functions
- Participate in and help support, Back to School Nights, Open Houses, Graduation and Admissions Events, as scheduled on weekdays and weekends
- Chaperone student field trips; some overnight
- Engage in ongoing professional development experiences, including out of the area opportunities, throughout the calendar year (including summer) as directed and supported by the administration

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music
- Teaching credential
- Classroom teaching experience, preferably at the elementary school level
- Eligibility to work in the USA; we are unable to provide sponsorship
- Pass background check and references, provide negative TB test
- Current Bloodborne Pathogens, First Aid & CPR, California Mandated Reporter & Sexual Harassment certifications, or able to attain within the first 3 months of employment

Physical Requirements:
- Pertaining to this position such as use of what tool, instruments, sounds, etc and the requirements that may affect their physical norm
- Ability to visually monitor the room and students?
- Prolong standing up to and above 80% of the time. Includes sitting, squatting, reaching, and kneeling.?
- Climb stairs and navigate sloping terrain
- Ability to move equipment/boxes and ability to lift up to 25lbs.
Work Environment:
- Navigate 10 acres of land with multi surfaces, multi-level with transitions
- Surfaces includes wood, linoleum, grass, concrete, dirt, gravel.?
- Sustain loud noises for a minimum of 50% of time depending on activities?
- Sustain indoor artificial lighting for 80% of time or higher depending on activities, backlit monitors
