Hourly Rate: $25 – $28

Location: Washington, D.C. Office

Work Model: Hybrid — In-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; remote Monday and Friday


The Legal & Policy Research Intern will support work across NRF’s Office of General Counsel and Government Relations teams by conducting legal research and contributing to analysis on key retail law and policy issues, and by assisting with memos, summaries, and other research-driven projects as needed. 


Essential Functions

  • Conduct legal research and draft written analyses on key legal and regulatory issues affecting the retail industry
  • Assist with legal research related to NRF's day-to-day contracts, compliance matters and organizational needs
  • Support the legal team with drafting memos, summaries, and other ad hoc projects as needed
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Recent college graduate admitted into a JD program/Law School
  • Strong legal research and writing skills demonstrated through coursework, internships, or writing samples
  • Excellent analytical ability and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with legal research tools (e.g., Bloomberg Law, LexisNexis, or Westlaw)
  • Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple assignments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current JD candidate entering into second year of law school (2L)
  • Demonstrated interest in retail or sectors that are part of the retail ecosystem
  • Coursework or prior experience conducting legal or legislative research and synthesizing complex information into clear written analysis
